    Visitors "expect to pay for parking" on Dartmoor, according to a national park official.

    Parking charges have been introduced at four car parks on Dartmoor with the authority saying it has had a 40% reduction in funding since 2011 and voluntary parking donations have been as low as 15p per vehicle.

    A man has died as a result of the three-vehicle crash at about 16:50 on Monday.

    The road was closed for seven hours for an investigation, causing much traffic congestion.

    Well, it may be a bit of a squeeze in Devon's latest nightspot, but it's one that will certainly become better known by word of mouth as what's likely to be the world's smallest nightclub opens in the South Hams.

    The last red phone box in Kingsbridge, which is being handed over to the town council, is being converted into a disco, with BT kitting it out with a music system, lights and glitter ball.

    The council said it hoped to raise money for a local charity that supported adults with learning difficulties.

    A man has died as a result of a three-vehicle crash on the A38 in Cornwall.

    Emergency services were called to the scene near Tideford at about 16:50 on Monday.

    Police said, external the crash involved an articulated lorry, a BMW and a Vauxhall vehicle.

    The driver of the BMW, described a man in his 30s, died as a result of the collision. His next of kin had been contacted and formal identification had yet to take place, police said.

    The drivers of the other vehicles were taken to hospital in Plymouth to be treated for minor injuries.

    The road was closed for seven hours for an investigation, causing traffic congestion back to Trerulefoot roundabout.

    Highways bosses said that the road was fully reopened after midnight.

    Police have appealed for witnesses.

    A sailor from Cornwall is preparing to spend six months alone at sea in a race organised to mark the 50th anniversary of Sir Robin Knox-Johnston becoming the first person to sail solo and non-stop around the world.

    Veteran sailor Robin Davie, who grew up in St Agnes, has had to virtually rebuild his 36ft (11m) boat in Falmouth ready for the 2018 Golden Globe Race, external.

    It starts in Les Sables D'Olonne in France on 1 July.

    The 19 entrants will use boats and technology of the type used 50 years ago.

    A vehicle was found on its side in a river in Cornwall earlier this morning.

    It was found in "shallow water" at about 06:30 by fire crews.

    Officers said, external no-one was inside the vehicle and it was later recovered from the river near Comford, Redruth.

    Officers said they did not routinely accept flares but added that they were "assessed at scene and deemed to be safe enough to transport and store".

    They said that the flares' seals were found to be intact which meant they were "no more difficult to dispose of then firearms or ammunition".

    The Plymouth Coastguard Rescue Team tweeted, external that it was "positive that they were brought in rather than fired".

    St Ives Coastguard Rescue Team was called out on Monday night to reports of a girl in a "confused state" on a beach.

    She was found on Gwithian Towans beach, near St Ives Bay Holiday Park, at about 22:10. Police were also called to the incident.

    Coastguards said the girl's family arrived and she was released into their care.

    Emergency services were called out to a crash involving a 30-tonne lorry and a van on the A38 in south east Cornwall just before Monday night's rush hour.

    The crash occurred on Quay Road in Tideford at about 16:50.

    Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said, external that one casualty was freed from a vehicle and treated by an ambulance crew before being taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

    Police said the crash caused traffic congestion back to Trerulefoot roundabout.

    Highways bosses said that the road was fully reopened after midnight.

  18. Worst monthly rise in petrol prices 'for 18 years'published at 07:38 British Summer Time 5 June 2018

    Motorists in the South West have suffered the worst monthly rise in the average price of petrol in at least 18 years with almost 6p a litre being added at the pumps in May.

    Figures from the RAC Fuel Watch data reveals unleaded shot up from 123.55p to 129.35p last month.

    The increases have been driven by a jump in the price of oil as well as a weakening of the pound against the dollar.

    A Cornish charity which helps young families cope with the challenges of parenting is to benefit from almost £500,000 of National Lottery funding.

    Home-Start Kernow , externalbased in Redruth recruits volunteers, then matches their parenting experience to families who have often been referred by social workers.

    The charity's chair Steve Fowler says some young parents do not have the traditional sources of advice others often rely on.

    "Often the families we support are isolated.

    "We all know that parenting is a difficult and demanding job, if you want to call it that. You have to imagine how you would cope if you didn't have the support you might get if you've got parents living close by."

    In total, the Big Lottery Fund, external is handing out £888,000 of National Lottery funding to 46 community projects in Cornwall, ranging from beach safety training to table tennis equipment.

    There could be new Cornwall Council boundaries at the next local elections in 2021 if plans to change them are approved.

    The independent Local Government Boundary Commission for England has published draft proposals which include reducing the number of councillors to 87 - 36 fewer than the current number.

    Detailed interactive maps have been loaded on the commission's website, external.

    The public is being given the chance to comment on the changes until the middle of September.
