The grandson of Plymouth explorer Robert Falcon Scott says his legacy is the "science of Antarctica".
Richard Scott says what his grandfather achieved in his lifetime was "amazing" - as he unveiled a plaque in his honour in the Milehouse area of the city.
The naval officer and his team attempted to be the first to reach the South Pole in 1912. They reached the pole but were five weeks later than Raold Amundsen's Norwegian expedition and died on their return journey.
Today marks the 150th anniversary of the polar explorer's birth.
