  1. Repeats on telly? Essex dopplegangers to appear in documentarypublished at 14:28 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2016

    These men aren't twins, in fact they aren't even related. 

    They are doppelgangers from Braintree and will appear on a new Channel 4 documentary called Finding My Twin Stranger, external.

    Neil Richardson and John Jemison didn't know each other, but met in the town and they are now among the most convincing lookalike strangers in the country.  

    Catch them in action tomorrow at 22:00.

    Essex Police is cracking down on drink and drug driving as the run-up to Christmas begins. 

    Sgt Jason Dearsley has been called to 68 fatal crashes during his 12 years with the roads policing team. 

    He has been describing the harrowing first fatal drink-drive case he was called to.

    Over eight million people travelled from Chelmsford railway station last year, the second busiest in the east of England, new figures have revealed. 

    The data also showed Stansted Airport was in the top five busiest in the region, with six million people choosing to take a train from there.

    A leisure centre in Walton-on-the-Naze will remain closed for the rest of the year after Legionella bacteria was found there, BBC Essex understands.

    Lifestyles

    Lifestyles, which is run by Tendring District Council and includes a swimming pool, was shut last week after a customer contracted the disease. 

    The man was treated in hospital, but has since been released. 

    Plumbers are now having to replace the existing shower system.

  6. 'Terrible tragedy' - says shopping centre manager after woman found dead in carpublished at 13:10 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2016

    The manager of a shopping centre in Chelmsford where a woman, who was found dead in a car yesterday, worked has offered his condolences.

    A man and a woman, named locally as Tom Putt and Nikki Willis, were discovered in the vehicle in Fox Crescent yesterday morning. 

    Mick McDonagh, manager of the High Chelmer, said: "Naturally it's a terrible tragedy for two people so young to die. 

    "I'm saddened to learn that one was associated with the High Chelmer CEX store. 

    "My condolences go to the families, particularly at Christmas."

  8. Motorcyclist named after fatal A127 crashpublished at 12:59 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2016

    A motorcyclist who died in a crash involving a lorry on the A127 in Westcliff-on-Sea on Friday has been named as Robert Munroe by police. 

    The 28-year-old, known as Bobby to his family, died at the scene of the crash which happened at the junction with Colemans Avenue at about 08:45.

    A man from Shoebury, arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs, has been bailed to report back to police in April.

    Gorleston have been allowed to progress to the fourth round of the FA Vase, external.

    The Greens' third round match at home to Basildon was called off on Saturday when a spectator, the father-in-law of Gorleston goalkeeper Taurean Molloy, collapsed and died while watching. 

    Their opponents Basildon were winning 1-0 when the game was abandoned with about five minutes to go.

    If both teams agreed, the match would have been replayed.

    Gorleston had come to the decision that they were prepared to repeat the game.

    However, the Essex side have forfeited the encounter.

  10. Driver in three-vehicle horror smash was 'double the drink-drive limit'published at 11:35 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2016

    A driver involved in a three-vehicle crash near Brentwood last night blew double the drink-drive limit, police have said.

    The A128 between the A127 and A13 was closed for a time after a car crossed the white line, hitting a van and a mini. 

    The driver of the car, who has since been reported for excess alcohol, was taken to hospital with a suspected broken wrist. 

    Two other people suffered minor injures.

    A man has been left with a fractured skull after being attacked near a kebab shop in Loughton, police say.

    It happened outside The Kebabery in High Road at about 01:20 on 27 November. 

    Two men, both in their 20s, were headbutted, punched and kicked in the assault. The other victim suffered a fractured leg. 

    Police have now issued CCTV of a man they want to speak to.

  16. Update expected on Legionella leisure centrepublished at 09:04 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2016

    We should find out more later on the situation at a leisure centre in Walton-on-the-Naze that has been closed since Friday after Legionella bacteria was found there.

    Tendring District Council, which runs Lifestyles, spent yesterday in meetings with health and safety bosses. 

    One customer ended up in hospital from the bacteria, but is now said to be recovering.

    After the bodies of two people in their 20s were discovered in a car in Chelmsford yesterday, a councillor in the area described the incident as "shocking".

    Speaking to BBC Essex, Stephen Fowell, who represents the Melbourne estate area, said: "The local community is very shocked.

    "We have to leave the police to try and find out why they are unexplained."

    Flowers have been laid at the scene where the bodies of two people in their 20s were found in a car in Chelmsford.

    The pair, who were pronounced dead at the scene, were discovered in Fox Crescent just after 11:00 yesterday.

    It's not yet clear how they died.
