A yellow warning for snow and ice remains in place, based on both the likelihood of wintry weather and the severity of its impact.

The latest warning says the snow will "slowly fade away during Friday" but "even where snow does not fall icy stretches are still to be expected".

Amber warnings are more localised and focused than yellow warnings, raising the probability of disruptions.

He added that more people seem to be taking note of warnings issued by the Met Office, resulting in less chaos.

    Patrick O'Hagan
    BBC Radio Berkshire reporter

West Berkshire seems to be where the snow is at its worst in our region from what I can see.

I'm here in Newbury town centre where the snow is still coming down very heavily, if anything it's getting worse.

Normally there would be lots of people here at this time of day, but the coffee shops are all empty and there is nobody around.
