    Evelyn Southwell was the son of the Canon of Worcester Cathedral and was killed 100 years ago today during the Battle of the Somme.

    His memorial window is in the cathedral's cloisters.

  2. New chief executive sought by hospital trust after watchdog's concernspublished at 14:14 British Summer Time 15 September 2016

    A permanent chief executive is being sought by the trust running the hospitals in Worcestershire following concerns raised by a health watchdog.

    The Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust says its last Care Quality Commission inspection highlighted "the instability caused by the number of interim leaders across our organisation".

    The trust says once it has appointed a new chief executive it will fill other vacant senior positions.

  3. Congratulations to medal-winning Paralympianpublished at 13:33 British Summer Time 15 September 2016

    Redditch-born swimmer Claire Cashmore, 28, won silver in the Women's SB8 100m breaststroke last night.

    Cashmore had a tremendous start off the platform and was first to the wall at the turn but Canada's Katarina Roxen came back strong to win by a length. 

    Cashmore, who won two silver medals at London 2012, has three more chances to upgrade to gold later this week.

  6. Arrest after crash involving three pedestrians and a carpublished at 12:45 British Summer Time 15 September 2016

    A 19-year-old man from Kidderminster has been arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle dangerously, external after a crash in Shropshire.

    West Mercia Police say a man is in a critical but stable condition after a collision involving three pedestrians and an Audi A4 in High Street, Cleobury Mortimer on Sunday.

    The 32-year-old sustained head injuries, a broken leg and a broken arm.

    The arrested man has been bailed until Monday 24 October.

    Worcester Warriors back row Alafoti Faosiliva has been banned for a week after pleading guilty to striking Gloucester's Mariano Galarza.

    The 30-year-old, who joined in the summer, was sent off for the incident during the league game on 9 September.

    A Worcestershire brewer who only turned his hobby of growing hops into a business last year has made it into the Good Beer Guide.

    Woodcote Manor Brewery is one of five in Herefordshire and Worcestershire to open within the last year.

  12. Parents protest over planned cuts to children's servicespublished at 10:56 British Summer Time 15 September 2016

    About 40 parents have gathered at County Hall in Worcester in a final protest against plans to cut services at children's centres across the county, according to the local authority.

    Centres currently provide support for parents, including ante-natal sessions, breastfeeding advice and toddler activities.

    Worcestershire County Council says no centres it owns will close, but some of the current services delivered at 11 sites "may stop, be delivered differently or elsewhere".

    Some parents say the cuts will damage the chances of a generation of children. 

    At today's council meeting opposition councillors will call for a 12-month delay before any decision is made.
