    The victims of a spate of burglaries in rural parts of north Worcestershire say they feel powerless to stop it happening. 

    BBC Hereford & Worcester has learned of 10 burglaries in recent weeks around the Bromsgrove area and several more around Droitwich.

    Adrian Beale's farm in Upper Bentley was targeted for tools and machinery.

    Ch Insp Edd Williams from West Mercia Police says the levels of crime being reported is increasing nationally, but that doesn't guarantee a crime scene visit.

    Worcestershire's Sascha Kindred, who's on his way to his sixth Paralympic games, says the event is "not about how full the stadiums are".

    The swimmer, who's 38, has six Paralympic gold medals to his name.

  12. Worcester's Cornmarket statues: Woodbine Williepublished at 17:20 British Summer Time 1 September 2016

    The Reverend Geoffrey Studdert Kennedy, better known as Woodbine Willie, was a chaplain in WW1 who became a nationally famous figure for his actions at the front line.

    He earned his nickname for his habit of handing out packets of cigarettes to troops.

    He was awarded the Military Cross for his bravery, and after the war ended he became a fierce critic of the hardships faced by returning soldiers.

  13. Men who conned £33,000 from an elderly vulnerable woman are sentencedpublished at 17:10 British Summer Time 1 September 2016

    Five men who persuaded an elderly woman to part with £33,000 for odd jobs and gardening work they never carried out have been sentenced at Worcester Crown Court, external.

    All five pleaded guilty to charges including conspiracy to steal and money laundering.

    West Mercia Police say the five repeatedly contacted a woman in her 80s, who lived in Kington.

    Two of the men were jailed and the other three were given suspended prison sentences.

  17. Worcester's Cornmarket statues: King Charles IIpublished at 16:12 British Summer Time 1 September 2016

    King Charles II had to flee for his life after losing the Battle of Worcester in 1651, which is why his statue is wrapped in a cloak.

    The house he fled from still stands in New Street - it would have been next to the city walls at the time of the battle. He spent six weeks on the run, with a price of £1,000 on his head.
