  2. Healthcare workers 'twice as likely to suffer domestic violence'published at 17:58 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2016

    Women working in healthcare are twice as likely to be the victims of domestic violence, compared with the national average, according to new research by the University of Worcester. 

    The university's National Centre for the Study and Prevention of Violence and Abuse spoke to 86 female healthcare professionals from across the UK.

    Half of those questioned said they had experienced domestic violence at some point in their lives.

    Paralympian Lauren Rowles is on the shortlist to be named BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year 2016.

    The 18-year-old, who's from Bromsgrove, picked up a gold medal at the Rio Paralympic Games, in the trunk-and-arms mixed double sculls, with partner Laurence Whiteley, recording a world best time in the process.

    British Paralympic swimming champion Sascha Kindred has won an appeal after his funding was cut.

    The 38-year-old Herefordshire-based Paralympian, who won his seventh Paralympic title in Rio this summer, was one of a number of high-profile athletes left off the podium programme.

    West Mercia Police say a 38-year-old man from the town was arrested on suspicion of possession of controlled drugs of class A with intent to supply.

  12. Plans to prosecute people who wear medals they are not entitled to backed by MPpublished at 15:55 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2016

    The MP for West Worcestershire, Harrriet Baldwin, who's also a defence minister, has backed plans to prosecute people who wear military medals they haven't earned. 

    A private members bill debated in the house of commons today proposes that those displaying medals they are not entitled to could face prison, community penalties, or a £5,000 fine.

    Ms Baldwin says, although exact figures are not available, recent examples in the media suggest this is "a growing problem".

    Sports stars and broadcasters will be in an all-star team taking part in a testimonial match for the director of netball at Worcester’s new professional team.

    The match next month is to celebrate the career of Pamela Cookey, a two-time Commonwealth bronze medallist and seven-time Superleague winner.

    The players will include BBC Radio 5 Live presenter Caroline Barker, Olympic 400m medallist Katharine Merry (pictured), and current England netball players, Jo Harten, Sarah Bayman, Serena Guthrie.
