  7. Somme heroes: The search for relativespublished at 11:09 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2016

    An author is hoping to trace the relatives of 15 men from Herefordshire who took part in the final action of the Battle of the Somme in 1916.

    They had been transferred to serve with the Highland Division and were captured after fighting on the Redan Ridge - where there is a memorial to those who died.

    These were the 15 soldiers captured:

    - Herbert Adams: 11 St Martins Street, Hereford 

    - Harold Clarke: Garway 

    - Wiliam Evans: Knighton

    - Henry Francis: Lower Eggleton (near Ledbury)

    - Harold Ernest Gough: Llandrindod Wells

    - Thomas Goscombe: Dursley

    - Arthur Hamplet: Ironbridge

    - Alfred Jones: Hentland (near Ross on Wye)

    - Alexander Frederick James Palmer:- Norfolk (but originally from Hereford)

    - John William Parry:- Pear Tree Cottage, Ledbury 

    - James Probert:- Eign Mill Cottage, Eign Road, Hereford

    - Charles Mann: Ullingswick

    - Edward Williams: 32 Albert Road, Ledbury

    - James Bumfrey: Eastnor

    - William Goodwin: Marshalls Farm, Kilcot

  8. Worcestershire to play day-night matchpublished at 10:37 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2016

    The 2017 County Championship will feature a full round of day-night matches for the first time.

    Worcestershire will travel to Durham for their day-night match on 26 June. England players are expected to be made available for the nine floodlit games taking place 26-29 June.

    The county's  County Championship starts on 7 April,  

    Worcestershire open their County Championship campaign on 14 April away to Glamorgan and take part in their first One Day Cup match a fortnight later.

    Relatives of the men who fought in the last action of the Battle of the Somme are being sought in Herefordshire.

    A century ago today 15 men from the Herefordshire Regiment, who had been transferred to serve with the Highland Division, were taken as prisoners of war by the Germans after fighting at Redan Ridge.

    Author Pete Weston is eager to find out more about the soldiers whose story has been forgotten.

    A sinkhole that's closed a major road in Worcester since yesterday morning, should be fixed by midday, the council says. 

    Severn Trent engineers have worked through the night to deal with a large hidden void under Brickfields Road, near the railway bridge.
