The trust running the Worcestershire Royal Hospital has confirmed that the A&E department there has "experienced an extremely busy Christmas and new year period and these pressure are continuing".

The pressures means that patients are waiting for "longer than we would aim for", the trust says, but it stressed people will be "seen and treated in order of clinical priority", with a focus on providing "safe emergency care".

The trust said it could not comment on reports that two patients have died after waiting on hospital corridors.

  7. Man interviewed voluntarily by police over hunt incidentpublished at 17:41 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2017

    BBC Hereford and Worcester

West Mercia Police have told BBC Hereford & Worcester they are going to interview a man "voluntarily under caution" over footage appearing to show an attack on an anti-hunt protestor.

They also say they have "not received any reports from a complainant" at this time.

The altercation is alleged to have happened during the Castlemorton meet in Worcestershire last week.

Bristol Hunt Saboteurs say the alleged attack happened after hounds from the hunt had chased a fox into a badger sett - they claim they intervened to save the fox and were attacked.

Ledbury Hunt says it is carrying out an internal investigation into what happened, but say the person who allegedly hit the protester is not connected with the hunt or employed by them.

  12. Two patients die after hospital corridor waitpublished at 16:34 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2017

    Michele Paduano
    Health correspondent, BBC Midlands Today

Two patients have died after waiting for treatment in corridors at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital and a third was found hanged on a ward.

There has been mounting pressure on the A&E department over the last week - yesterday afternoon there were 30 people on the corridor, but that has improved slightly today, with 23 people on the corridor.

One patient died from a cardiac arrest after 35 hours waiting in a corridor at the hospital. One patient who had an aneurysm was taken into the resuscitation area but died. The last patient is thought to have hanged themselves on a ward. There's nothing to connect these deaths with winter pressures.

The trust running the hospital says it can't say anything about the deaths at this stage due to patient confidentiality. It has apologised for the long waits and says it is doing its best to treat the most serious cases first.

The hospital is asking people to use minor injury units if they can.
