  9. Ambulance service appeals for volunteers to act as first responderspublished at 17:20 Greenwich Mean Time 4 January 2017

    More volunteers are needed to act as Community First Responders, external (CFRs) in Herefordshire, West Midlands Ambulance Service say.

    The service says it is looking for volunteers in postcodes HR1-HR9 inclusive and WR15.

    CFRs are members of the public who are trained in a number of assessments and basic lifesaving techniques including the use of a defibrillator.  

    Those successful would undertake a six-week training programme in February.

    Hereford's library is set to reopen on 31 January after five months of work to remove asbestos from the building in Broad Street  

    For the first time in many years, the refurbishment will also include public toilets, plus new meeting rooms and offices.

    Campaigners are still working on plans to transform the building into an £8m state-of-the-art learning centre which will include a cafe and council hub.

    A new voluntary draft code of best practice for busking in Worcester city centre is being drawn up in consultation with local music organisations and businesses, the city council says.

    Worcester City Council says it will replace an old code which has been in place for over a decade.

    The new code, planned to be in place by 1 April, will "encourage live music and performance" while avoiding causing any problems for retailers, businesses and residents, a spokesman said.

    The code of practice asks buskers to:

    - Play music at a reasonable volume

    - Perform in a single spot for no longer than 45 minutes

    - To avoid playing close to cash machines

    Both wards at Ross-on-Wye Community Hospital remain closed to visitors due to an outbreak of norovirus, the trust running the hospital says.

    Merlin ward and Peregrin ward were closed last week as a precaution to prevent the outbreak spreading.

    A 24-year-old who died when his car left the road has been named by police.

    Rob Broadhurst, who was from Cookley near Kidderminster, died following a crash on the A448 Kidderminster Road near Dodford at around 18:45 on Monday.
