  14. We remember: A city remembers the Falklandspublished at 13:45 British Summer Time 19 May 2017

    Nicola Goodwin
    Reporter, BBC Hereford & Worcester

Twenty seven men from Herefordshire died in the Falklands War, more than 10% of the British casualties - including Craig Jones, who was killed just a day before the ceasefire.

Hereford is a garrison city and most people have connections with the armed forces. There are memorial benches around the city providing a permanent link between Hereford and Stanley.

Five years ago I was privileged to be able to visit the islands with Craig's father Richard, brother Gareth and nephew Alexander Jones.

We were on Craig Island as it was dedicated in his memory.

He died in the battle on Mount Longdon in 1982

The short time that I spent in the islands changed my life and it’s an experience that I will never forget.

Time may have passed, but the memories of being invaded are still very raw for the people who live there, 8,000 miles away from the British mainland, and for the men and women who took part in the conflict and their families.

    Richard and Pamela Jones

Tomorrow hundreds of people will gather at Hereford Cathedral to remember.
