    Eleven people have been charged with conspiring to smuggle items into prisons

    It follows an investigation by West Mercia Police, external and the prison service into how things like drugs and weapons ended up at HMP Stoke Heath in Shropshire, HMP Hewell in Redditch, HMP Birmingham, and HMP Featherstone in Wolverhampton.

    The offences, in some cases dating back to 2015, included throwing items into prisons and using drones to drop them over walls.

    Nine men and two women have been bailed to appear at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Monday.

    Worcestershire Rapids are through to their first semi-final in 13 years and tickets for the New Road clash will go on sale on Friday.

    Supporters will be able to buy tickets and hospitality tickets from 09:00 on Friday for the Royal London One-Day Cup match.

    Worcestershire will host either Yorkshire or Surrey in the semi-final on 17 June.

    I've been to meet two dogs who are being trained in Worcester to help try to save thousands of bats across Europe from being killed by wind turbines.

    It's hoped their work will not only speed up planning applications, but also encourage the owners of the turbines to turn them off during specific times of the night to reduce the chance of bats being injured.

    Prince Charles is planning to build 24 homes in the village of St Weonards in Herefordshire.

    The Duchy of Cornwall estate has applied to build the mixture of two, three and four bedroom homes on land it owns to the south of the village.

    Eight of the homes will be affordable and the plans also include a new footpath from the estate to the village primary school.

  17. Credit Union launched as 'alternative to loan sharks or pay day lenders'published at 17:47 British Summer Time 17 May 2017

    A new credit union has been launched in Droitwich which the council says will provide "a safer alternative to using a loan shark or pay day lender".

    The new credit union will operate every Tuesday for the next 13 weeks at the WANDS Children’s Centre in Westlands.

    The council says £100 borrowed over one month from the credit union would cost an extra £2.01 compared with £36.85 from a pay day lender.

    Any money made is reinvested back into the community for the benefit of the credit union’s members, Wychavon District Council say.
