    So-called Canary Girls who worked at a munitions factory during World War Two have been honoured at an event at County Hall in Worcester.

    Women risked life and limb to produce ammunition and were stained yellow by toxic chemicals.

    A selected tree is one of several black pear trees that have been gifted by Pershore College as supporters of the Black Pear Tree Award.

    The BBC news website published a feature about the so-called Canary Girls last month and in February we also reported on an event held to mark the 100th anniversary of the munitions factory opening.

    BBC Hereford & Worcester are running a campaign, which has been raised in parliament, to get a national honour for all munitions workers.

    Kidderminster are taking part in the EFL Trust Walking Football Cup , externalfinal at Aston Villa’s training ground on Saturday.

    Twelve sides, including Kidderminster, finished either winners or runners-up in their regional finals to reach the national final at Bodymoor Heath, which will start at 10:00 and finish at about 15:00.

    "Walking football" is a slow-paced version of the sport that is aimed specifically at the over 50s, EFL Trust said on its website.

    More than 1,500 men and women from a record-breaking 200 teams have taken part in this year’s competition, a 17% increase in teams from last year.

    One of the Midlands' most famous musicians has paid tribute to Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham (below right), as a blue plaque honouring him has been unveiled.

    It was put on the side of the house in Headless Cross in Redditch where the Led Zeppelin drummer was born.

    Herefordshire will welcome back skipper Matt Pardoe to their side for their Unicorns Championship trip to Shropshire, which starts on Sunday.

    Left-arm bowler, Jamie McIlroy, has also given Herefordshire a boost by making himself available for the remainder of their season.

    Herefordshire's chairman of selectors, Ian Macklin, believes McIlroy could have a bright future in the game.

    Hereford's walk-in GP centre is set to shut in the next two weeks and be replaced by a doctors' surgery and access centre.

    Eighty-five patients a day currently use the centre at Asda, where you can walk in and wait to see a doctor and there are concerns the changes could affect the most vulnerable people.

    The Clinical Commissioning Group say the change will improve access to health care in the South Wye area of the city and it is urging people to register with a GP.

    Worcestershire, external have received a treble boost over the availability of England all-rounder Moeen Ali.

    Moeen is allowed to play for the Rapids in Saturday's Royal London One-Day Cup semi-final with Surrey at New Road, following England's exit from the ICC Trophy.

    But Worcestershire have also been told he can play in their next two Specsavers County Championship matches as well.

    It means Moeen can face Kent in the home promotion clash starting on Monday and the day-night encounter against Durham at the Emirates from 26 to 29 June.

  17. Cyclist dies after accident with car and vanpublished at 13:32 British Summer Time 15 June 2017

    A cyclist has died after being involved in an incident involving a car and and a van.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service said the man suffered "significant injuries" and received "considerable treatment" but died at the scene.

    It happened at 07:40 on Thursday on Bromsgrove Road, Romsley, near Halesowen.

  18. Worcester City stadium plans: What the club wantspublished at 13:17 British Summer Time 15 June 2017

    A planning application for a new stadium for Worcester City, external next to Perdiswell Leisure Centre has been submitted to the council - the plans are being recommended for approval.

    The club has been homeless since it sold its St George's Lane ground for housing in 2013.

  19. Arrest after racially aggravated public order offence on rail servicepublished at 12:55 British Summer Time 15 June 2017

    A man has been arrested, following a racially aggravated public order offence on a rail service between Kidderminster and Worcester Foregate Street, police say.

    British Transport Police, external say a woman boarded the service at Kidderminster at 19:20 on 8 June and while travelling, a man in the same carriage stood up and began racially abusing her. He then made a strangling gesture towards her.

    A 33-year-old man from Worcester has been arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated public order.

    He was also arrested for carrying a lock knife and a Class B drug and has been released pending further investigation.
