  3. Fire safety 'upgraded' on Worcester tower blockspublished at 15:41 British Summer Time 14 June 2017

The company which recently refurbished Worcester's two high rise blocks says corridors, fire doors and smoke alarm systems have all been upgraded as part of the renovation project. There are also firebreaks on every floor to stop the spread of fire.

Fortis Living, which owns the large tower blocks in St Johns (pictured), says the cladding on them is completely different to the system on Grenfell Towers in London, the scene of a devastating fire.

The company says all fire risk assessments for its high-rise buildings are undertaken annually and were last completed in April 2017.

Hereford &Worcester Fire and Rescue Service have also undertaken training events and operational exercises at the blocks so they could "respond appropriately" in the event of a fire, Fortis Living says.

    Quote Message

We still do not know how the London fire started and spread and we will be awaiting the outcome and recommendations of the investigations to see what lessons we can learn to further improve our approach to fire safety."
