  1. Body-worn video cameras: More officers issued with new technologypublished at 17:49 British Summer Time 27 July 2017

    Police officers in north Worcestershire will be wearing video cameras in future as part of a £1m roll-out of the technology.

    Body-worn cameras will be used in Kidderminster, Stourport, Bewdley, Hagley, Bromsgrove and Redditch and throughout rural communities in north Worcestershire.

    Officers in Malvern were the first to pilot the technology in April.

    The Severn Stars netball team have appointed Sam Bird as their new head coach.

    The team's former assistant coach will take charge ahead of the 2018 season.

    The franchise, a collaboration between the universities of Worcester and Gloucestershire, were coached by Monia Gerrard before she stepped down from the role last month.

    The police were called to Longbridge station by staff travelling between Redditch and Birmingham who were worried about two unruly passengers.

  7. Police called to deal with 'unruly passengers' on trainpublished at 16:27 British Summer Time 27 July 2017

    A Redditch to Birmingham New Street train had to stop at Longbridge so the police could be called to deal with two unruly passengers, London Midland say.

    The police were called by train crew at 14:10 - London Midland say one passenger was unconscious and the other was drunk and shouting.

    Train services along the line will be delayed or cancelled for the rest of the day because of the length of time it took to deal with the incident, the operator says.

    The Steelbacks are sixth in the North Group, but a win tonight would move them up to second in the table.

  10. Ancient honour for public servantpublished at 15:39 British Summer Time 27 July 2017

    A long-standing public servant has been given an honour dating back to Anglo-Saxon times.

    Peter Pinfield has been made an honorary alderman by Wychavon District Council.

    It's only the fifth time in the council's history the title has been granted.

    Mr Pinfield spent 32 years serving on Wychavon representing both Droitwich West and Droitwich East, having been elected in 1979.

    He says his greatest achievement was securing a £2m from both Wychavon and Worcestershire County Council to restore Droitwich’s canals.

    The 69-year-old retired in 2014 to take up the position of chairman of Worcestershire Healthwatch, an organisation which champions patients’ views.

    It follows an earlier collision involving two lorries.

    A fly-tipper who dumped controlled waste, including a car, at a Bromyard caravan park has been jailed for six weeks.

    Paul Biddle, 25, of Open Field Caravans, Bromyard, had pleaded guilty to the offence and was sentenced at Hereford Magistrates' Court on 20 July.

    Herefordshire Council says this is the first custodial sentence it has gained for fly-tipping.

    The offences took place in April last year, the council say.

    A man shot by police last night is in a critical condition in hospital, an IPCC commissioner says.

    Derrick Campbell told the BBC the wounded man is black and believed to be in his early 40s.

  17. Police shooting: 'Armed officers running up street'published at 13:07 British Summer Time 27 July 2017

    A man living near the scene of a police shooting in which a man was wounded in the chest said he saw "armed police running up and down the road" after a bang.

    Emergency crews were called to Hereford Close, Rubery, at about 21:00 on Wednesday and the case has been referred to the IPCC.

  18. Travel: Contraflow on M5 this weekendpublished at 12:24 British Summer Time 27 July 2017

    A contraflow system on the M5 this weekend will affect traffic in north Worcestershire this weekend, the county council says.

    Concrete repairs and waterproofing work will be taking place at the Oldbury viaduct, between junctions 1 and 2, and the contraflow is being put in place with all traffic using the northbound carriageway.

    Changes have been put in place at key junctions in the area, including M5 junction 4a northbound and M6 junction 8 southbound, Highways England says.

    The agency says this is to increase capacity where the M5 joins the M6 and M42 and reduce the amount of traffic heading towards the roadworks.

  19. Rotherwas munitions deaths: Unmarked grave indentifieldpublished at 12:04 British Summer Time 27 July 2017

    The unmarked grave of munitions workers killed in a bombing raid in World War Two has been identified following a BBC Hereford & Worcester investigation.

    At least 16 people died when a German bomber attacked the Rotherwas munitions factory in Hereford, exactly 75 years ago today.

    The graves of members of the Hursey family, who died in the bombing, are in the graveyard at St Peter's Church, which overlooks the former site of the munitions factory.

    Records in the church show that next to their plots are unmarked graves, which Reverend Anna Branston believes are those of the other people killed in the raid.
