    A lorry driver has been sentenced to 14 months in jail for running over a mother and daughter after going through a red light.

    Zena Jackson, 43, and her six-year-old daughter Cidalia Mendes-Jackson were killed instantly in the collision on Spring Bank on 29 April. 

    The lorry driven by Neville Fletcher was approaching a pedestrian crossing when the traffic light on the crossing turned red. 

    The court was shown CCTV and dash cam footage from the lorry.

  2. Sport: North Ferriby face relegationpublished at 14:16 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2016

    North Ferriby United's supporters group are preparing themselves for a relegation from the National League next year, regardless of where they finish. 

    The club have to have in place better turnstiles, a press box and increase the stadium capacity to 4,000 by March 2017. 

    But in an email the group say they've no chance of completing all three in time to meet the rules of the league, meaning the club would be automatically relegated.

    A Hull man's been charged with seven counts of burglary, external including stealing from a school.

    Danny Morgan, 40, from Dorado Close in Hull has also been charged with possession of heroin.

    He's been remanded into custody and will go on trial at Hull Crown Court in January.

    The founder of the Humber Rescue lifeboat has been at Buckingham Palace today for a special Royal appointment. 

    Paul Berriff has been appointed OBE for his work with the service, which has rescued more than 5,000 people since it was formed in 1989.

    A lorry driver has been sentenced to 14 months in prison after admitting killing a mum and daughter when he drove through a red light.

    Zena Jackson, 43, and six-year-old Cidalia Mendes-Jackson died after being hit by the HGV on a pedestrian crossing on Spring Bank in Hull on 29 April.

    Neville Fletcher, 55, of Southcoates Lane, Hull, admitted two counts of causing death by careless driving when he appeared at Hull Magistrates' Court last month.

    The Deputy Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, Rob Waltham says the authority has ploughed money into Anvil House to help house homeless people.

    Protestors at a similar tent city in Hull were moved on from Queen's Gardens last month.

    Police have been dealing with four collisions on the A180 this morning. 

    A lorry overturned and shed a load of coal near Barnetby Top. There are severe delays close to the junction with the A15 on both the east and westbound carriageways. 

    The eastbound carriageway is now open but the A180 westbound between Immingham and Barnetby Top could be closed until early afternoon.

    Parents in the north of England should learn from their pushier counterparts in the south to help their children get top grades, says the children's tsar.

    The Children's Commissioner for England, Anne Longfield, a Leeds-based mother, said parents in the south spur on their children.

    The commissioner's Growing up North research on children's prospects in the north is being launched today.

    A north-south attainment gap opens up in secondary school, says the study.

    Tents and campers

    Scunthorpe's tent city is down near to the bus station on Carlton Street. 

    The people who are staying there say they want to "shame the council" into helping homeless people into a house. 

    But the deputy leader of North Lincolnshire Council Rob Waltham says they've ploughed money into Anvil House to do just that:
