    Art installation 'Arrivals and Departures' has been projected onto The Deep aquarium in Hull this evening.

    Hull 2017 chief executive and director Martin Green said it was "all about the people who have arrived and departed from this port city".

    Organisers are asking those with tickets to the fireworks to head for their allocated gate at Hull Marina.

    If Hull 2017 hopes to get people involved in the city of culture then it's got off to a good start. 

    And there's nowhere better to get involved than a pop-up photo studio in the shadow of the tidal barrier, where people can have their photos taken before seeing themselves in instant artworks projected (using a bicycle-mounted projector) on the wall.

    Crowds at Hull Marina waiting for the fireworks are listening to the tunes of landlady Linda, who is armed with two IPods and a selection of dancefloor fillers.

  7. No Humber Bridge access for 'In With A Bang'published at 19:15 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2017

    People hoping to watch tonight's fireworks display will not be able to use the Humber Bridge as a viewing platform.

    Managers of the Humber Bridge said it does not have the resource to manage a large number of people for the In With A Bang, external display.

    The bridge's east footpath will be closed until 20:30 GMT on 1 January.

    A Hull landlady is about to have a special evening, as she DJ's to 25,000 people in the city.

    Linda from the Bonny Boat pub will be spinning her favourite numbers at the fireworks event.

    She's used to an audience the fraction of the size of this one - no pressure!

    If you're one of the 25,000 heading to Hull Marina to watch the fireworks display at 20:17 GMT, it might be worth bringing a hat and scarf.

    According to BBC Weather, it's going to be a cool four degrees - but any rain should hold off until at least 22:00.

    Hope I haven't jinxed it.

    Not sure if these officially count as artworks, but the illuminated words that have been installed on the street on Scale Lane Staith as part of the recent road improvements are intriguing.

    After some investigation, it turns out they all refer to parts of ships. Apparently.

    Some excellent images are now coming through of Queen Victoria Square as the Made in Hull projection show has its fourth screening.

    Dozens of art installations are open around the city, with the night concluding with a fireworks display called 'In With A Bang' at 20:17 GMT.

    Breaking

    The countdown ends, with Made in Hull officially marking the start of Hull's year as UK City of Culture.

    The opening projections in the square include underwater shots of boat propellers and some airborne images of local hero Amy Johnson.

    Johnson became the first woman to fly solo to Australia, landing in Darwin on 24 May 1930 after 19 and a half days.

    The 2017 City of Culture events starts with projection and soundscape spectacular Made in Hull.

    Directed by filmmaker Sean McAllister, the display aims to transform some of the city's most iconic buildings by using them as a canvas for huge projections. 

    It aims to take viewers on a journey through almost 100 years of Hull's history.
