    A thief helped himself to money from an open till in a theft at a shop in Hull.

    The man was queueing at Farm Foods on Greenwood Avenue when the customer ahead of him paid.

    The shop assistant opened the till to deposit cash in the drawer and the thief leaned across, grabbed an handfull and then ran off.

    The incident happened at around 16:30 on Monday 2 January.

    The suspect is described as a white man, between 5ft 10ins and 6ft tall with a dark moustache. He was wearing a blue Berghaus jacket with the hood up, a beanie hat with a grey stripe around it and a navy blue scarf concealing the bottom half of his face.

    A seal pup that was found stranded on an embankment near Victoria Dock last night is now being cared for at the Sea Life Centre in Scarborough.

    The grey seal pup is around four to five weeks old, so is one of this year's pups.

    Staff at the Sea Life Centre have called him Basil and say he's very thin so is expected to be in their care for some time.

    The gritters are out across northern Lincolnshire this evening as temperatures dip to around -2C (28F) in some areas with a widespread frost and some ice.

    North Lincolnshire Council say their gritters will be spreading salt from 18:00 to 21:00 while North East Lincolnshire Council say their gritter will be running from 20:00 as the roads could get icy.

    The British world number 45 was leading 6-3 3-1 when the Frenchman, seeded six, pulled out after receiving treatment for blisters on his feet.

    He will next face Swiss second seed Stan Wawrinka after his 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 win over Serbia's Viktor Troicki.

    Police say they are still working to talk someone off a rooftop in Grimsby.

    The youth has been on top of a building in Heneage Street since 09:00 this morning according to officers although people living in the area say he's been up there since 07:30.

    I'm also told by locals that he's an 18 year old man and there is a police dog unit on the scene too.

    The road has been closed for most of the day and remains cordoned off.

    Officers are asking people to avoid the area between Patrick Street and Glanville Street but say they will help people with access to their homes if it's safe to do so.

    Its thought 26 elderly people living in an East Riding care home will have to find somewhere else to live after the owners announced they were closing the business.

    The Londesbrough Court care home in Market Weighton specialises in providing care to people with dementia and physical disabilities.

    It's believed the owners have decided to close down the home due to government funding levels and recruitment problems. 

    East Riding Council says it's sent a dedicated team, including social workers, to the home to work with the residents, their families and staff.

    Hull City fans plan to boycott Saturday's match, in protest at the sacking of head coach Mike Phelan, just three months into the job. 

    The Tigers are bottom of the Premier League and just three points from safety.

    The future of a community hub in North East Lincolnshire has been secured.

    The Gingerbread House is in the old library at Humberston which was shut two years ago as part of a number of library closures by North East Lincolnshire Council. 

    Some people living in the area had made complaints about the hub, but today planners have given them retrospective planning permission to continue operating as they are.

    The new Hull City manager is facing an "impossible task" according to former captain Ian Ashbee.

    The Premier League's bottom club have yet to confirm who will take over from Mike Phelan, who was sacked on Tuesday.

    Reports suggest former Olympiakos boss Marco Silva, external has been lined up, while former Birmingham City manager Gary Rowett was an early favourite.

    Ashbee, who played for the Tigers between 2002 and 2011, told the Press Association: "It's a poisoned chalice."

    A man's been on a rooftop in Grimsby for around 5 hours now.

    Police were called to Heneage Road at around 09:00 this morning.

    Officers say they are trying to bring the incident to a safe end and are talking to the man.

    A cordon is in place in the area and Heneage Road is still closed between David Street and Welholme Road.

    A nightclub in Cleethorpes has been vandalised.

    A group of youngsters is thought to be responsible for damage to the Barcelona Club on the North Prom last night.

    It's claimed they were seen leaving the area on bikes and scooters and later confronted by members of the public after they were spotted climbing on fairground rides on the beach.

    A man's tried to rob a pensioner in Grimsby, external

    The 78-year-old was parking his car at around 18:30 yesterday on West St Mary's Gate when he was approached by a man who asked for money, but fled empty-handed after a struggle. 

    Police are looking for a local man aged between 25 to 30-years-old and asking anyone with any information to contact them on the 101 number.
