    There's been an increase in demand at accident and emergency departments in Hull, Scunthorpe, Grimsby and Goole. 

    As a result, health bosses are urging people to only go to A&E if it's a real emergency.

    Over the last week, Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust has seen bed occupancy exceed capacity as local hospitals deal with an increase in the number of sick people admitted through the A&E Department at Hull Royal Infirmary.

    Just a few days ago the NHS in England rejected a claim by the British Red Cross that there is a "humanitarian crisis" in hospitals.

    A swimming teacher from a village near Pocklington has been picked to take part in a horse race in front of 25,000 people this summer. 

    Stella Riley, from Fangfoss, will compete against 11 other novice jockeys at York Racecourse.

    Hull City captain Michael Dawson is almost certainly out of tomorrow night's League Cup semi-final first leg tie against Manchester United at Old Trafford. 

    Dawson was forced off in the FA Cup win over Swansea with a shoulder injury and doesn't look like being fit.

    Tigers head coach Marco Silva expects to have striker Abel Hernandez available after seemingly coming back from a two month lay-off with a hernia without any problems. 

    There's no news yet on whether defender Harry Maguire will be fit for a return whilst fellow defender Curtis Davis is definitely out with a hamstring strain.

    Humberside Police are asking anyone who might have seen an assault in a Cleethorpes cemetery, external to come forward. 

    It happened at the Trinity Road Cemetery at around 15:15 on Monday 2 January following an argument between a man and a woman who are known to each other.

    Officers are appealing for two women who may have been in the area to come forward. 

  6. Police Federation chair calls for more training on taserspublished at 14:00 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2017

    More police officers should be equipped with tasers according to the Chair of the Humberside Police Federation, Pete Musgrave. 

    He wants to see front line officers who respond to incidents being trained on how to use them.

    The 246ft (75m) wind turbine blade installed yesterday was conceived by artist Nayan Kulkarni.

    It's been created for Look Up, external, a programme of temporary artworks created for the city’s public spaces.

    An animal charity which has a hospital in Grimsby wants more help for older people at risk of losing their pets when they go into a care home.

    The Blue Cross says not all pet friendly homes actually allow a resident to keep an animal. 

    With a quarter of older pet owners describing their pet as family, the charity is calling for a clearer approach to the problem.

    A new art installation which today spends its first full day in Hull's Queen Victoria Square was kept under wraps for months by a handful of people connected with Hull City of Culture. 

    The 246ft long (75m), 28 tonne (28,449kg) Siemens wind turbine blade is part of the "Look Up" City of Culture arts programme.

    The investigation into the Tunisian terror attack in which two people from East Yorkshire died, will be the focus of a special BBC programme tonight. 

    Claire Windass and Bruce Wilkinson were shot and killed when a gunman attacked a beach resort in Sousse in June 2015. The inquests into their deaths begins next Monday.

    Hull's City of Culture team say the first week has been a great success after revealing that more than 340,000 people visited Made in Hull. 

    The exhibition was the opening event of City of Culture Year and ran from New Year's Day until Saturday.

    A major route into Hull will be shut for 10 hours a day for five days from tonight. 

    Closures will be in places between 20:00 and 06:00 on the eastbound lane of the A63 from the Daltry Street flyover to Mytongate to allow for resurfacing. 

    Part of Park Street, near the city's railway station, will also shut for more than two and a half months while a bridge is strengthened.
