Resident Vitalijus Lisauskas, who lives in the top floor flat, says he believes the explosion was a result of a gas leak.

    Quote Message

The fire was in one of the downstairs flats and luckily we exited out of the building as it happened. Then it just exploded... knocking off the window and the one above it as well. It looked like a fireball, in a split second it went boom. Think it was a gas leak... or some kind of gas substance."

  19. Charlie gets a question in the Commonspublished at 16:57 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2017

    Clare Crooks
    BBC Local Live, Hull

A Cabinet minister has answered a question in Parliament on behalf of a 10-year-old boy from Hull.

Charlie from Ings Primary School was concerned about the plight of so-called " WASPI (Women Against State Pension Inequality), external women" who are facing having to alter their retirement plans because of a change in the state pension age.

The Labour MP for Hull East, Karl Turner, took up his case in the Commons:

    Karl Turner
    Quote Message

Yesterday I had the privilege of meeting the school council of Ings Primary in my constituency. Young Charlie, 10 years of age, raised the issue of WASPI women. He'd seen them protest outside of the Palace and he asked me why the Chancellor had completely ignored them in his Budget?"

Karl Turner, MP for Hull East

The Leader of the Commons, David Lidington, said he was delighted that a young lad was interested in politics:

    David Lidington
    Quote Message

The answer to Charlie... would be that the government has put in place transitional arrangements costing £1bn to taxpayers to cushion the impact of the change in state pension age for women and that to reverse the Pensions Act 2011 would cost more than £30bn. That's not something that can be justified."

David Lidington, Leader of the Commons
