    A Hull councillor has been charged with two counts of making indecent images of children.

    Steven Bayes, 55, of Prospect Street, Hull, has been charged with one count of possessing an extreme pornographic image, and two counts of making an indecent photograph of a child.

    He has been given conditional bail until 26 May when he is due to appear at Hull Crown Court.

    Hull Kingston Rovers were drawn against Salford Red Devils in the sixth round of the Challenge Cup earlier this week.

    It's now been confirmed the fixture will take place on Friday 12 May with an 8pm kick-off.

    The yellow bikes are being put out and the bunting is being put up across East Yorkshire.

    It can only mean one thing: the Tour de Yorkshire cycle race is just a day away.

    Setting off from Bridlington tomorrow lunchtime, competitors from across the world are due to take part in the event which last year attracted two million spectators along its route.

    Here are just some of the signs in Bridlington, Driffield and Pocklington that the countdown is well and truly on:

    Book lovers in East Yorkshire will soon be able to reserve or renew a library book without taking a step from their homes.

    East Riding of Yorkshire Council's launched a new, external smartphone app which even has the option of scanning a book you find in a shop to see if it's in the library catalogue.  

    Kevin Hadfield, the council's libraries, archives and museums manager, says: "I'm sure this new app is going to prove extremely popular and will be a  major asset for library customers."

  8. Worries over literacy levels in Hull and Grimsbypublished at 10:55 British Summer Time 27 April 2017

    There's concern about the level of literacy in Hull and Grimsby.

    The National Literacy Trust has ranked 533 areas across the country for their vulnerability to literacy problems.

    The results show Grimsby is ranked at 32, with three areas in Hull placed in the top 30.

  9. From Freetown to Hull: Sierra Leone VIP's anniversary visit to citypublished at 10:32 British Summer Time 27 April 2017

    There's a VIP in town today, with a visit to Hull from the High Commissioner of Sierra Leone.

    The visit by Edward Mohamed Turay is to celebrate the 225th anniversary of Freetown, which is, of course, one of Hull's twin cities.

    A celebration is due to be held this evening for people from Sierra Leone who now live in Hull.

  10. The countdown continues: We're almost ready for the Tour de Yorkshirepublished at 10:12 British Summer Time 27 April 2017

    In case you'd forgotten, there's just one day to go until the start of the Tour de Yorkshire, external.

    The ceremonial start to the race is due to take place in Bridlington at about 10:35 tomorrow morning, with the official start happening a couple of hours later.

    The race will travel through Driffield for the very first time and it looks like they are ready:

    Want to hear everything as it happens? BBC Radio Humberside will be covering the whole race and the atmosphere live tomorrow with David Burns at the start in Bridlington.

    Ties between Hull and Iceland are being celebrated in the city with a series of stunning life sized sculptures. 

    Ten cast iron and steel figures are on show at the University of Hull as part of the City of Culture year, to celebrate 1,000 years of trading across the seas:

    Hoods which protect officers from spit attacks will be used by Humberside Police on a trial basis from Monday, it's been announced.

    The Police Federation, which represents rank-and-file police officers, has been calling for its members to be able to use spit hoods on aggressive suspects.

    They are already used by some forces, but they are controversial, with some people claiming they are cruel and degrading.
