    An imitation gun believed to have been used by two thieves to rob a garage in Hull at the weekend has been found by police.

    An imitation firearm was wielded by two men who went into a petrol station on Leads Road at about 23:00 on Saturday.

    They threatened staff and stole cash and cigarettes.

    Another incident on the same night saw a man threatened and robbed by two men with weapons on a cycle path between Chamberlain Road and Ashendon Drive.

    The BBC Radio 1 Academy has announced it will be coming to Hull from 21-25 May to offer advice to teenagers who want a career in the creative industries.

    It will be made up of a series of special events including live radio shows, gigs, practical workshops and Q&As. 

    There will also be performances from acts including Bastille, You Me At Six, CreeperWill Joseph CookLouisa Johnson and Calum Scott

    Tickets will be available exclusively to Hull residents on the 6th May at a special BBC Radio 1's Piano Session live from the Albemarle Music Centre.

    The photographs are part of a new exhibition called SKIN and were commissioned by the gallery to mark Hull's 2017 UK City of Culture status.

    A woman who was trying to send a message on Facebook when she crashed into a pensioner's car, killing him, has been jailed for 27 months.

    Wendy Thompson, 53, from Barnetby in North Lincolnshire, had been trying to wish a friend happy birthday on the social media platform using her mobile phone.

    Rodney Lewis, 84, was killed in the crash on London's North Circular Road on 3 February last year.

    Thompson pleaded guilty at the Old Bailey to causing death by dangerous driving.

    Grimsby Town fans have been banned from bringing inflatables to Saturday's match at Barnet.

    In 2015 Grimsby Town fans threw inflatable objects onto Barnet's Hive pitch in protest after a fan was ejected from the stadium at Forest Green for failing to hand over an inflatable football.

    One fan was later found guilty of assaulting a football steward with an inflatable shark.

    The life and achievements of Hull FC rugby league legend and World War One hero Jack Harrison are to be marked by his former club this week, external.

    John "Jack" Harrison had been a star rugby league player for Hull FC before he joined the East Yorkshire Regiment and fought in World War One.  

    He was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross for his bravery during the battle in which he died. 

    He will be remembered during Friday's match between Hull FC and Warrington.

    Cleethorpes Town, external has been awarded a share of £100,000 to help improve facilities.

    The club will share the money with London club Hanwell Town.  

    The bursary will allow Cleethorpes Town to turn its home ground from a temporary facility to a permanent one.

    It will now also be given a selection of building equipment to help with the renovations

    A church in Grimsby has suffered minor damage following a fire at the weekend.

    The fire at Scartho Methodist Church is being treated by Humberside Police as arson.

    No-one was injured in the fire which saw expandable foam sprayed into the letterbox of the church and set alight. 

    Anyone with information about the incident is being asked to contact police.

    Police in Hull are increasing their patrols after two armed robberies took place over the weekend.

    The first incident happened at a petrol station on Leads Road at about 23:00 on Saturday when two men threatened staff with two weapons before stealing cash and cigarettes.

    Later, a man was threatened by two men with weapons on a cycle path between Chamberlain Road and Ashendon Drive. His mobile phone and his bike were stolen.

    The victims in both incidents were not physically harmed, but were shaken.

    The two suspects are described as being white, about 5ft 2ins tall, of medium build and in their mid-20s.  They spoke with local accents and were both dressed in black.

     A major Hull tourist attraction is going up against the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and Cornwall's Eden Project in the running for a prestigious award.

    The Visit England's tourism awards are held today and The Deep is up for the Inclusive Tourism Award.

    The aquarium's work to provide better access to exhibits for disabled visitors has earned its nomination. 

    The awards are due to be presented at a glitzy ceremony in London this afternoon.

    Thousands of tonnes of rocks from Norway will be used to improve flood defences in Cleethorpes.

    Work starts today to replace the timber breakwater which helps protect the North Prom from flooding.

    It's costing the Environment Agency £1.5m and is expected to be finished in about 10 weeks.

    Some people who live in the Avenues area of Hull say they're concerned by a recent rise in crime.

    According to official figures, the number of crimes reported in the area rose by 45% year-on-year in January, with February also seeing an increase.
