    A multimillion pound investigation by the University of Hull is hoping to establish the extent of household chemicals are harming the environment. 

    Mud samples from rivers are being analysed for toxins that have come from the sewage system. 

    They include ingredients found in toothpastes and handwash and even hormones in contraceptives.

    British Transport police officers have launched an investigation following an incident of public disorder at Cleethorpes railway station.

    It happened on Wednesday 5 April when a man went into the booking office and threatened staff members and the public.

    The man is described as a white man in his early 30’s, average build, 5'10", shaved head and possibly a tooth missing.

    One ward has been fully closed at Scunthorpe General Hospital due to an outbreak of diarrhoea and vomiting.

    Patients from the ward will not be discharged while they remain an infection risk.

    Regular and frequent disinfection is being carried out on the ward to contain the outbreak.

    A memorial service is being held in Hull to remember people who lost their lives in the most severe bombing the city suffered during the Second World War. 

    On the nights of 7 and 8 May 1941 Hull was set ablaze by the Luftwaffe.

    Fifty thousand homes were damaged and four-hundred people died. The service will be held at the Northern Cemetery at 15:00 today.

    A former Hull City Council foster carer has been sentenced to 19 years in jail for child sex offences. 

    The man pleaded guilty to 10 charges of sexual offences against children last year and last month a jury found him guilty of the rape and attempted rape of a child under the age of 13.

    There's concern in East Yorkshire about speeding bikers on rural roads, with one clocked at almost 120mph last week. 

    The farming community say they fear accidents between farm machinery and bikes will rise over the summer months unless something's done to tackle the issue. 

    Humberside Police recently launched a campaign, external to deal with the problem, I went along to find out how it works.

    Work on three new murals will get under way today in Hull to commemorate the city's fishing heritage.

    Last year, artists from Belfast painted a mural honouring Lillian Bilocca - the woman from Hull who led a successful campaign for better safety measures at sea. 

    Three new murals will be added to Hessle Road over the next fortnight.

    Police are searching for this man after fleece jackets were stolen from Go Outdoors on Clough Road in Hull.

    The theft happened on Saturday around 13:30 BST.

    The man was seen getting into a blue Peugeot 206.

  12. Giving it some welly: Yorkshire lifeboat stations' yellow boot odysseypublished at 09:33 British Summer Time 8 May 2017

    Crews at eight Yorkshire lifeboat stations have been challenged to come up with novel ways of transporting a small yellow welly throughout May - all in the name of charity.

    A team of four from Whitby RNLI (pictured) cycled across the moors to deliver the welly to Scarborough lifeboat house at the weekend.  

    Today, a team of four is due to carry the canary coloured rubber boot on a spine board along the Cleveland Way to Filey.

    The welly will then be taken to Flamborough, Bridlington, Withernsea and Spurn Point.

    The relay, which began in Staithes, North Yorkshire, is to raise funds for the RNLI's Mayday campaign which aims to buy £750,000 worth of lifesaving equipment.

    A prize will go to the station which does "welly good" (sorry, I tried not to..) and raises the most money.

    We may be damaging fish in our rivers and streams just by using simple hygiene products like toothpaste.

    A multi-million pound investigation by the University of Hull is hoping to find out more about a group of chemicals that is believed to be harming the environment. 

    Mud samples from rivers are being analysed for toxins the sewage system has failed to stop.

    They include components found in many brands of toothpaste and anti-bacterial handwash and even hormones found in contraceptives.

    It was a disappointing night for Scunthorpe United fans as the Iron failed in their bid for promotion to the Championship.

    It was a 3-2 home defeat to Millwall. 

    The second leg of their semi-final started well enough with Ivan Toney opening the scoring but the Lions equalised on half-time before establishing a 3-1 lead before the hour.
