  1. Boy gets stuck in basketball hooppublished at 14:07 British Summer Time 30 May 2017

    Firefighters had to be called to rescue a boy whose bottom got stuck in a 10ft-high basketball hoop over the weekend.

    Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said crews were called on Sunday night just before 20:45 to a play area in east Hull.

    The 13-year-old boy was rescued unhurt.

    Elderly residents living in a retirement complex in Beverley say they'll be left isolated if the postbox across the road in the nearby Tesco store is closed.

    Ten of the residents at Goulding Court are aged over ninety.

    Tesco say the postbox is operated by an outside company which has gone into liquidation.

  6. Heritage trail to be launched across the Humberpublished at 11:37 British Summer Time 30 May 2017

    A new Humber trail is being launched that will take people on a scenic journey through the rich landscapes of the region.

    The Humber trail is a 250 mile route that spans from as far north as Flamborough lighthouse and Bempton cliffs to as far south as Gainsthorpe Medieval Village in Lincolnshire.

    It'll also link 70 fascinating sites of interest including museums and art galleries, historic houses and gardens, and archaeological areas.

    The Humber 250 Trail will be launched on 2 June at Normanby Hall, North Lincolnshire.

  7. Residents appeal for better care of Hull estatepublished at 11:19 British Summer Time 30 May 2017

    People living in an area of Hull say further regeneration is needed to stop it falling back into decline.

    In April residents of the Ings Estate said their community felt like a "war zone" after six derelict properties were targeted by arsonists in one weekend.

    Hull City Council says 73 of the 83 empty properties have now been demolished and a lot of work is ongoing to improve the area.

    But local people say newly developed land needs to be properly maintained so they don't suffer from the same problems in the future.

  8. Drivers badly hurt in A614 accidentpublished at 10:40 British Summer Time 30 May 2017

    Two drivers have been seriously injured, one with life-threatening injuries, following a collision on the A614 near Spaldington, Howden.

    The collision happened yesterday at 09:30 and the road was closed for several hours.

    Humberside Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, external to come forward.

    Some businesses in Grimsby say they'll be badly affected when their business rates increase.

    North East Lincolnshire council is putting up charges for companies at the Nunsthorpe Business Units because they say they can't afford to subsidise the charges anymore.

    Some business owners say the charges aren't acceptable.

    Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner Keith Hunter has announced Lee Freeman as the preferred candidate for Chief Constable of Humberside Police following the recent selection process.

    Grimsby-born Mr Freeman will now attend a confirmation hearing with the Humberside Police and Crime Panel in June.

    The Chief Constable position became available after Justine Curran stood down in February.

  12. Northern Rail proposes changes to trains in East Ridingpublished at 08:25 British Summer Time 30 May 2017

    People in Bridlington and Beverley may lose their direct rail connection to South Yorkshire next year.

    Northern Rail is proposing to end the through trains to Sheffield and Doncaster next year, and is currently carrying out a consultation. In future passengers would have to change at Hull.

    The Hull and East Riding Rail Users Association says it will challenge the plans, which could make journeys to and from London more difficult.
