    It's being made a City of Sanctuary on World Refugee Day, with events being held in Hull as part of the UK focus.

    Police are trying to find the family of a Hull man who's died, external.

    Thomas Frederick Brownlee was found dead at his home on Anlaby Road on Monday 22 May 2017.

    Police say Thomas' death is not suspicious. but they've not been able to find his family.

    Anyone with any information is asked to call the coroners office on 01482 613 009.

    Visitors to the Humber Bridge could soon be enjoying abseiling, cable-walking and zip-lining.

    They're all included in new plans being drawn up by the new man in charge of the bridge.

    The plans also include a glass elevator to take people to the top of the tower.

    A court has heard that a carer from Bridlington stole more than £250,000 from a 102-year old woman.

    Hull Crown Court heard that Julie Sayles, 59, bought two houses with money she transferred from a joint bank account she set up with Edith Negus.

    The jury was told that Mrs Sayes, pictured below left, wrote a new will, leaving most of Ms Negus's remaining assets to her.

    Sayles, who worked for a charity providing care to the elderly, is accused of fraud by abuse of position, buying properties with the proceeds of crime and making a fraudulent will and presenting it to a solicitor.

    The court heard that Ms Negus, pictured above right, began receiving care from Friends of the Elderly when her physical and mental health began to deteriorate after her 100th birthday.

    She died in October 2014. Sayles denies all the charges; the trial continues

    A Gainsborough woman who pretended she had cancer to con her Hull employer out of thousands of pounds has been ordered to pay back just £1.

    Kelsey Whitehead, who worked for Carbon Electric, was given a suspended twelve months jail sentence in March after admitting fraud totalling nearly £15,000.

    Lincoln Crown Court heard the 38-year-old from Lea Road had no available assets to seize.

    A man's been seriously hurt in a violent assault in Grimsby.

    Investigations are ongoing after police were called to Norfolk Court in Grimsby yesterday morning.

    A man was found with life-threatening injuries and taken to Hull Royal Infirmary, where he's now in a stable condition.

    The Brexit Secretary and Haltemprice and Howden MP David Davis has begun formal talks on Britain leaving the European Union in Brussels.

    He said he was determined to build a "strong and special partnership" with the EU.

    Chief EU negotiator Michel Barnier said he wanted to agree key priorities and a timetable for discussions.

    Subjects for the negotiations include the status of expats, the UK's 'divorce bill' and the Northern Ireland border.

    I've been having a look around the newly refurbished Trinity Market in Hull today.

    The first phase has been completed and traders have moved back into brand new stalls.

    Around £3m has been spent on it so far. They've revealed some of the original Edwardian market as well as expanding it.

    The next part of the redevelopment will see an area where bands can play and a cafe area as well as street food stalls and late night opening.

  17. Watch: Hull scientists say plastic is polluting Antarcticapublished at 15:41 British Summer Time 19 June 2017

    Scientists from the University of Hull have found levels of microplastics were five times higher in Antarctica than expected.

    Microplastics which are less than 5mm in diameter are found in things like toothpaste, shampoo and clothing.

    It was thought that Antarctica was relatively free from plastic pollution.

    The new man in charge of the Humber Bridge, Kevin Moore (pictured) says he wants the bridge to become a tourist destination and a place for adrenaline junkies.

    It's hoped plans for a glass elevator on the bridge will be in place in two years.

    Plans for a lift were initially turned down, but they are now being resubmitted.
