  1. 'One of a kind' cycle track opens in Hullpublished at 15:24 British Summer Time 2 August 2017

    A new multi-million pound cycle track has opened in Hull.

    Wide Cycle track surrounded by grass and street lights and fields.

    The 1km track, next to Ennerdale Leisure Centre, is the only one of its kind in East Yorkshire.

    It's hoped it will help learners develop their cycling skills before taking to busy roads.

    Campaigners are celebrating this afternoon as Grimsby's ice rink is saved from closure.

    North East Lincolnshire Council had wanted to shut the town's rink because it was too expensive for the authority to run.

    But a group campaigned to keep it open and this afternoon they've been given the go-ahead to run it themselves.

  3. One-day closure for Skidby Millpublished at 14:24 British Summer Time 2 August 2017

    If you were planning on visiting the landmark Skidby Mill near Cottingham next week, you're being warned that it'll be closed on Thursday 10 August.

    Work is being done in the area by Northern Powergrid which means there will be no electricity to power the windmill site.

    The mill is a working four-sailed tower windmill and the venue also incorporates the Museum of East Riding Rural Life.

    The mill will be open as usual again on Friday 11 August, according to East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

  4. Steven Cawthorne inquiry: Three released under investigationpublished at 13:57 British Summer Time 2 August 2017

    Three men have been released under investigation after being arrested in connection with the death of a man in Hull last week.

    Steven John Cawthorne, 35, was attacked on Leonard Street last Wednesday and died later in hospital.

    Police believe it was a "targeted" attack and they are continuing their enquiries.

  5. Special Olympics torch paraded through Hullpublished at 13:30 British Summer Time 2 August 2017

    Some of Hull's young athletes have carried a torch through the city this lunchtime ahead of the Special Olympics in Sheffield which start next week.

    They're some of the 2,600 competitors who'll be going to the games.

    The Special Olympics is open only to people with learning difficulties and allows people with a wider range of abilities to enter.

    Competitors race in ability groups to give everyone a chance of success.

    An elderly woman's been seriously injured on a bus in Grimsby, external after it stopped suddenly.

    The woman fell from her seat as the bus braked to avoid hitting a car which crossed in front of it on Freeman Street at the Wellington Street junction at about 09:30 yesterday morning.

    Police are asking the driver of a small white car which is believed to have pulled in front of the bus towards Asda, or anyone with any information, to get in touch via the 101 number.

    TVs, Playstations and sound systems are among the items seized by North Lincolnshire Council because of noisy neighbours.

    In the last year, the council says it's had over 400 complaints of noise from people singing, playing loud music and parties.

    Some of those have led to items like DVDs, Freeview boxes and radios being confiscated, the authority has revealed.

    North Lincolnshire Council is now donating confiscated equipment to the Magic Moments charity in Scunthorpe.

  11. Discount retailer takes over East Yorkshire supermarket chainpublished at 11:09 British Summer Time 2 August 2017

    Discount retailer B&M has bought East Yorkshire's Heron Foods in a £152m takeover.

    B&M will gain Heron's 251 stores as it develops the grocery side of its business.

    The firm currently employs almost 4,000 people and serves four million shoppers a week.

  12. Council promises to plug plague of potholes on Hull roadpublished at 10:42 British Summer Time 2 August 2017

    You've been telling us that along Newland Avenue in Hull, particularly the junction with Goddard Avenue, there are currently some pretty nasty potholes.

    However, it appears they may well not be there for much longer.

    Hull City Council has promised a "full programme" of resurfacing work for Newland Avenue in September.

  13. Flame of Hope comes to Hull to celebrate Special Olympicspublished at 10:09 British Summer Time 2 August 2017

    The official Special Olympics Torch Run - complete with the Flame of Hope - is due to visit Hull later.

    Local athletes will take part in the torch run across Hull this afternoon, which starts at the William Wilberforce Statue at about 12:30 and will be at the Queen Victoria Monument by about 13:00.

    It's to celebrate the start of the Special Olympics GB National Games in Sheffield in less than a week.

    About 2,600 athletes with learning disabilities will take part in 20 sports events.

    Kyle Edmund's good form continued as he reached the second round of the Citi Open in Washington, but fellow Briton Heather Watson lost her opening match.

    British number two Edmund, who reached the semi-finals of the Atlanta Openlast week, defeated South Korea's Hyeon Chung 6-3 6-1 in 57 minutes.

    The 22-year-old will now play number four seed Grigor Dimitrov.

    Watson, meanwhile, was beaten 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-3) by Romania's world number 134 Patricia Maria Tig.

  15. Grimsby's ice rink could be savedpublished at 09:07 British Summer Time 2 August 2017

    An ice rink in Grimsby which is threatened with closure could be taken over by the people who use it.

    North East Lincolnshire Council had wanted to close the town's rink because it was too expensive for them to run.

    But the Grimsby Ice Rink Community has campaigned to keep it open and today it's expected to take over the running of the venue.

    The council is set to make a final decision later on whether the group will be allowed to officially take the facility off the authority's hands.
