    Councillors in Beverley say cutting direct trains to Doncaster will harm the town's economy.

    Northern Rail has proposed ending the service next year, meaning passengers will have to change in Hull instead.

    The council has also complained that Northern Rail hasn't consulted with it over the planned change.

    West Yorkshire Police have linked 50 deaths in 2017 across Yorkshire, the Humber region and Cleveland with laboratory-produced drug fentanyl.

    This figure comes after the National Crime Agency said a total of 60 people have died in the UK in the past eight months after taking the painkilling drug.

    A further 70 deaths are being investigated, the force says.

    A total of 60 people - many of them in Yorkshire, the Humber region and Cleveland - have died in the UK in the past eight months after taking the painkilling drug fentanyl.

    The National Crime Agency (NCA) says post-mortem toxicology tests are taking place in a further 70 cases where it's suspected fentanyl, and an even more powerful substance carfentonyl, may have played a part.

    The "vast majority" of those who've died were heroin users, according to the NCA.

    Fentanyl, which is 50 times more potent than heroin, is typically imported from China, and can be mixed with heroin.

    Holidaymakers are warned to take care on East Yorkshire & northern Lincolnshire's coast this summer.

    Holidaymakers are warned to take care on East Yorkshire & northern Lincolnshire's coastal resorts this summer.

    The RNLI says this is their busiest time of the year for incidents and last summer in the north of England crews responded to more than 300 emergencies.

    The warning comes as a man has been rescued after drifting a mile out to sea from Redcar in a toy dinghy.

    A woman's had her nose broken in a suspected assault in Grimsby, external.

    Police were called to Corporation Road just after 21:30 on Saturday night.

    A 28-year-old man's been arrested in connection with the incident.

    Police are appealing for witnesses.

    Almost 50 dancers from Hull will be performing at the All England Dance Festival in London from today.

    Over four days, dancers aged 11 to 19 years from the Northern Academy of Performing Arts will perform at the Hackney Empire in London for the National Finals of the festival.

    That's just some of the play equipment that's been installed on the village playing field at Holme on Spalding Moor.

    The £31,000 it cost for the equipment came from the Chevin Housing Group.

    As part of their contract to build the Sands Lane development, they've provided the outdoor playing equipment for the village.

    Three men have been arrested for allegedly throwing a petrol bomb at a house in Grimsby.

    Humberside Fire and Rescue were called to Hainton Avenue just before 22:00 last night.

    The front door of the property was damaged in the incident, but no one was injured.

    Two 19-year-olds and a 17-year-old remain in police custody while investigations into the suspected arson attack continue.

    Anyone with any information is asked to call police on the 101 number.

    Special artwork featuring the work of children from East Yorkshire is being unveiled at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park today.

    The inflatable sculpture has been created to mark the 30th birthday of Martin House Hospice Care and is designed to be an interactive and multi-use space.

    Six violins and jewellery have been stolen from a house in Bridlington, external.

    The burglary happened on Kingston Road during the afternoon of Friday 28 July.

    Police believe it could be linked to another burglary on the same day on Kingsgate, where money and jewellery were also taken.

    Police are appealing for anyone with any information to get in touch on the 101 number, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

    There are concerns about road safety in Aldbrough, East Yorkshire.

    For many years, members of the town's parish council have been trying to deal with people speeding through Aldbrough and to get a safe place to cross on the B1242.

    But now they claim East Riding of Yorkshire Council "needs three people to be injured" before they'll do anything about it.

    East Riding of Yorkshire Council says it takes traffic concerns very seriously and a total of seven traffic surveys have been carried out in Aldbrough since 2009.

    The authority says the village does not meet its criteria for road safety measures.

    That happens when there have been three "injury collisions" of any severity in one year.

    The Reverend Canon Jonathan William Baker, Acting Dean of Peterborough Cathedral, has been given the job as the new vicar of Beverley Minster.

    Revd Baker was ordained in 1992 and has served at churches in Croydon, Scarborough and Peterborough.

    He'll be officially installed by the Bishop of Hull on Saturday 9 December.

    People living in Hull have been asked to vote on plans to introduce wardens to combat litter and keep the city's streets clean.

    The wardens could issue on the spot fines of up to £75 to those caught dropping rubbish.

    The self-financing scheme would be run by a private company and could start next April if it is approved.

    If you're going to Beverley Races this afternoon you might notice something unusual about the early races.

    That's because the first two races of the day will be run by dogs.

    It's part of a charity event where jockeys turn into trainers and race their dogs head-to-head around the track.

    The Burgess Supadog Bark De Triomphe is in aid of Antibiotic Research UK and will take place from 13:15 BST.

    Anti-social behaviour is getting so bad in one area of Hull that shops there say their takings are down by almost a third on previous years.

    Some businesses on Spring Bank say trade is being seriously affected by persistent problems caused by street drinkers.

    Seventeen councils in Yorkshire, including Hull and East Yorkshire, have said for the first time they want to unite for a devolution deal.

    The group of council leaders, which covers East, West, North and South Yorkshire says Yorkshire Day is the ideal time to announce their plans for the county's devolution.

    The proposals could see them control budgets for transport and education, but there's no word from the government yet about whether this sort of deal would even be possible.
