  2. Tour of Britain comes to North Lincolnshirepublished at 12:34 British Summer Time 5 September 2017

    The Tour of Britain is heading across North Lincolnshire today.

    The cyclists left Normanby Hall at 11:00 this morning and will finish - after pedalling about 111 miles - in Central Park, Scunthorpe.

    Thousands of people are expected to line the streets of North Lincolnshire and some of the world's top cyclists are taking part in the race, including Olympic medalist Mark Cavendish.

  3. Grimsby man charged with manslaughter after Cleethorpes deathpublished at 11:47 British Summer Time 5 September 2017

    Police have released the identity of the man who died after an incident outside a bar in Cleethorpes over the weekend.

    Michael Hawkins, 58, (pictured below) who lived in the town, died after an altercation on Sunday evening.

    Now, 27-year-old Paul Taylor, of Holyoake Road has been charged with manslaughter.

    Mr Taylor will appear in court later today.

    Two men who were arrested on suspicion of affray have been released under investigation.

    A woman who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been unconditionally released.

    The bunting is out in Crowle in North Lincolnshire as fans await the Tour of Britain riders.

    The town hosts one of Stage Three's intermediate sprints.

    Thousands of spectators are expected to line the 178km route from Normanby Hall to Scunthorpe's Central Park.

  6. Charity reveals rise in length of prison sentencespublished at 10:11 British Summer Time 5 September 2017

    There's been an increase in the number of prisoners in Yorkshire and the Humber having their sentences lengthened because of poor behaviour.

    Research by The Howard League for Penal Reform shows nearly 70 years worth of additional sentences were handed out by prisons in 2016.

    The prison charity believes adding time to sentences doesn't work and is calling for changes to the system.

  7. Ferens to shut temporarily as preparations get under way for Turner Prizepublished at 09:31 British Summer Time 5 September 2017

    Hull's Ferens Art Gallery closes to the public today as it prepares to host the Turner Prize exhibition.

    The gallery will re-open next Tuesday and the four shortlisted artists will display their work from the end of September, external until the beginning of January.

    The winner will be announced at an award ceremony on 5 December.

  8. Northern Lincolnshire trust to form partnership to improve servicespublished at 09:02 British Summer Time 5 September 2017

    The trust running hospitals in Goole, Scunthorpe and Grimsby will be partnered with a trust in Lancashire as it looks to improve its standards of care and finances.

    The Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust was placed into special measures earlier this year and criticised by the Care Quality Commission.

    The new partnership will allow the trust to access new advice and support to help improve standards, according to NHS officials.

    UKIP MEP for Yorkshire and the Humber, Jane Collins, is heading a four-strong alliance for the leadership of the party.

    Victory for the UKIP United leadership slate would see Ms Collins take the top job, with key roles for her former rivals.

    Eleven candidates were originally cleared to stand in the contest to succeed Paul Nuttall.

    The UKIP United team feared that splitting the vote could clear the way for a leader such as Anne Marie Waters, who has previously called Islam "evil".

    A Scunthorpe arts centre will be closed for conservation work later this week.

    20-21 Visual Arts Centre in Scunthorpe will temporarily close on Thursday and Friday for work to be carried out on the former St John’s Church.

    Two decorative pinnacles on the former church will be removed and conservation work will take place.

    For the work to be carried out, it requires a large crane and track way to be laid in Church Square.

    Access to Church Square during this time will be limited.

    A normal service will resume from Saturday

    A Government minister's been in Cleethorpes to announce new funding for our coastal communities.

    Minister for Coastal Communities Jake Berry, has today announced that £40m is being made available to help improve business and create jobs, and coastal towns like Cleethorpes, Bridlington and Hornsea will be able to bid for a share.

    It comes as new research by the Social Market Foundation reveals more than 8 out of 10 people living in coastal areas, earn less than the national average.

  17. Children's Services in North Lincolnshire given highest ratingpublished at 16:31 British Summer Time 4 September 2017

    North Lincolnshire's Children's Services have been rated as "outstanding" by inspectors.

    The council-run service for looked-after and vulnerable children was given the highest rating by education watchdog Ofsted, following an inspection earlier this year.

    It's one of only three councils in the country to get "outstanding" status.

    The NHS needs more people across Yorkshire to become organ donors.

    Currently only a third of people in the region have registered to donate their organs after they die.

    Meanwhile, there are nearly 500 people waiting for a lifesaving transplant.

    Today is the start of Organ Donation Week, and NHS Blood and Transplant are urging people to sign up to the register and speak to their families about their decision.

    There's a surplus of African land snails after 200 were born in Yorkshire last weekend!

    Kendall Gregson already has four African land snails, but came home to find 200 more.

    Now she's hoping social media can help her find a new home for all the newborns.
