  1. Scunthorpe chiropractor defeats gruelling 103-mile trekpublished at 15:26 British Summer Time 4 September 2017

    A chiropractor from Scunthorpe has just finished the UTMB ultra-marathon, external in the French Alps.

    It’s approximately 103-miles around Mont Blanc.

    James Noble, who works for the Chirohealth Clinic in Scunthorpe, completed the marathon in 42 hours and accumulatively climbed around 9,500m.

    The A180 is closed again eastbound as police organise the removal of the remaining wreckage from the earlier accident.

    Diversions are again underway. Police say the road will re-open by 15:30pm.

    Hull's iconic Freedom Festival certainly celebrated its 10th birthday in style this weekend.

    Thousands of people descended on Hull city centre to enjoy more than 200 acts of outdoor arts and performances featuring dance, street theatre, music, spoken word and circus from all over the world.

  7. Disruption continues on Northern rail servicespublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 4 September 2017

    There's more disruption on Northern rail services today, as members of the RMT union hold a second strike.

    Union members walked out on Friday and are continuing strike action today.

    The action's part of a dispute over plans to cut the number of guards on Northern train services.

    The majority of trains are expected to run until 19:00, with services on some routes finishing earlier.

    The overall number of trains operating will be "significantly reduced", according to Northern.

    A man's died in a collision on the A180 in North Lincolnshire, police have confirmed.

    Emergency crews were called shortly after 05:30 to an incident involving three cars near Barnetby Top.

    The eastbound carriageway at the scene remains closed to allow collision investigations to take place.

    However, police say the road will be partially reopened shortly.

    The road closure has caused significant delays for motorists in the area.

    A man's been arrested on suspicion of murder after the death of another man during an incident in Cleethorpes at the weekend.

    The man died at the scene of the incident which happened outside the Studio Bar on Market Street at about 17:00 on Sunday afternoon.

    Three more people have been arrested for offences related to the incident.

    Police are still asking for any witnesses to come forward.

  11. Devolution delay stalling job prospects?published at 11:59 British Summer Time 4 September 2017

    There's a warning the chance to create hundreds of thousands of new jobs across the country could be lost.

    The Local Government Association (LGA) says it's because places like Yorkshire still haven't been given new decision-making powers by the government.

    It's all part of the government's plan to give local officials more powers over things like transport, housing and health.

    It's happened in some places - like Greater Manchester - but here in Yorkshire, councils haven't yet managed to agree on a way forward.

    The LGA, which represents councils, says it's worried the devolution process has stalled - meaning opportunities to create jobs and improve services are being lost.

    Objects from ancient villages lost to sea and evidence of storm surge deposits dating back between 3,000 to 8,000 years ago are among the discoveries being shared by archaeologists.

    Excavations took place near Skeffling, East Yorkshire, last year where artefacts includingstone tools, pottery, tile and animal bone were unearthed.

    The archaeological study is part of a plan by the Environment Agency to create a 900-acre natural habitat for wading birds and other wildlife, as well as improving the flood defences in the area.

    People living in North East Lincolnshire are being told not to put their bins out tomorrow to keep the roads clear, external for the Tour of Britain cycle race.

    It's the first time the county is hosting a stage of the race.

    The cyclists will set off from Normanby Hall, completing a 178-kilometre route which finishes in Scunthorpe.

    Thousands of spectators are expected to line course.

    Some motorists have now been caught up in delays on the road for over three hours.

    The road was closed eastbound between Barnetby Top and Brocklesby Interchange this morning after a what is being described by police as a "serious accident".

    It's thought the road closure could remain in place into this afternoon.

    A 58-year-old man's died after being assaulted in Cleethorpes town centre in what police describe as a "serious incident".

    It happened outside the Studio Bar on Market Street at about 17:00 yesterday afternoon and involved several people.

    Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance was called, but the man died at the scene, police say.

    The market place in Cleethorpes was closed for some time after the incident as police carried out their investigations.

    Work's due to start today to redevelop Kingston House in Hull city centre.

    The office block, on Bond Street, was built in the 1960s and has been mostly empty for a number of years.

    Developers Tradepark Ltd now want to turn it into a mixture of homes, retail, a hotel, a restaurant and office spaces.

    It comes on the same day that Hull City Council unveils its ambitious new plans for the Albion Street area of the city.

    A fifth of people in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire say they are less likely to attend an event at a large venue because of the threat of terrorism, compared to a year ago.

    It comes after thousands of people visited Hull over the weekend for the 10th anniversary of the Freedom Festival.

    According to a new BBC survey, more than 50% of the UK population thinks we should be helping security services to combat terrorism, even if it threatens individual's privacy.

    Hull City Council has today unveiled its big vision for the area around the old BHS building on Albion Street.

    The 1.7 hectare area earmarked for development includes the former BHS and Co-op building, the Edwin Davis building, and Albion Street car park.

    The plans include a new ice arena, luxury shops & plans to save the BHS mural.

    A campaign to save the 1963 Italian glass mosaic Three Ships mural by Alan Boyeson has attracted much public support since the closure of BHS last year.

    The A180 is closed eastbound due to an incident between M180 J5 / A15 / A18 (Barnetby Top) and A160 (Brocklesby Interchange, Habrough).

    Humberside Police are on the scene and it is anticipated that the road closure will be in place throughout this morning and possibly into this afternoon.

    It is causing extensive delays in the area.

    A diversion is currently in place. Motorists are being advised to use alternative routes if possible.

    The Tour of Britain is due to arrive in North Lincolnshire tomorrow.

    The race visits a selection of places along the route which will be hosting the event for the first time.
