Volunteer drivers for the Thames Ambulance Service, which covers Hull and northern Lincolnshire, say changes to their terms and conditions are morally wrong and will leave patients stranded.
New rules mean drivers won't be paid for fuel on the way to their first job, or returning from their last.
Thames Ambulance says the new standards allow for accurate journey payments and ensure the quality of patients' experiences is safeguarded.
But some volunteers say 40 drivers have already quit over the new conditions and some patients have complained about waiting too long for transport to turn up.
The head of Thames Ambulance Service has apologised to patients affected by the dispute.
