    Vicky Johnson
    BBC Look North

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) , externalhas directed Humberside Police to hold gross misconduct hearings for two police officers, following its independent investigation into the police's surveillance of Janet Alder, the sister of Christopher Alder who died in custody in Hull in 1998, and another person.

    Janet Alder

Christopher Alder died while lying face down and unconscious in a pool of blood in a police custody suite in Hull, as a group of officers stood chatting nearby.

The surveillance of Janet Alder, which happened during the inquest of her brother's death, came to light when a serving Humberside Police officer told superiors of the operation.

An IPCC report in 2015 found evidence of a case for gross misconduct but the Crown Prosecution Service said there was not enough evidence.

The IPCC commissioner has written to Humberside Police to direct them to hold hearings for the officers, with a date for this still to be confirmed.

    Quote Message

The decision to direct a police forces to hold a disciplinary hearing is not taken lightly. Taking into account the serious nature of the allegations and weight of evidence presented to me, I felt it was essential for public confidence that the officers concerned account for their actions.

  20. Cancer services changes blamed on staff shortagespublished at 17:11 Greenwich Mean Time 31 October 2017

    Vicky Johnson
    BBC Look North

Some cancer patients in North East Lincolnshire will have to travel to Hull for treatment after a decision made this afternoon by the trust which runs hospitals in Grimsby, Scunthorpe and Goole.

    Grimsby Hospital

The Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust says staff shortages means moving complex chemotherapy work to Castle Hill in Hull will help to provide a safe service.

The changes are expected to affect about 70 patients every year, the trust says.

The arrangement is initially temporary but, subject to public consultation, could be made permanent, it adds.

    Quote Message

We have long-established links with Castle Hill and our aim is to ensure local cancer patients receive the quality care they need. This change to the service will affect patients receiving haematological care from the trust, but it will mean their more complex care needs will be met at a centre of excellence."
