    There are plans to turn a former church in Hull into a new community centre.

    The Trafalgar Street Church, on Beverley Road, close to the city centre, has been empty for a number of years.

    Now, a group wants to turn it into a space which nearby residents can use, saying it could be a community drop-in centre or even a wedding venue.

    Councillor Gwen Lunn, from the Friends of Trafalgar Street Church, says it could become a key feature for the nearby community:

    A campaign has begun to find the owner of an old photograph found on the floor of a supermarket in Barton-upon-Humber.

    The picture of a young woman found in Tesco is more than 70 years old.

    On the back it reads: "To Bobby with love from Marian" and is dated 1945.

    Tesco Barton's community champion Pip Bennett says the supermarket is keen to return it to its rightful owner.

    An application to drill for oil at a village near Scunthorpe has been rejected by a government planning inspector.

    The decision follows a public inquiry held before Christmas into plans by Egdon Resources to develop an existing site at Wressle.

    There had been strong local opposition and North Lincolnshire Council had already rejected the proposals, which included the use of acid to extract oil from deep underground.

    In reaching his decision the planning inspector raised concerns about the potential environmental impact of the scheme on local water supplies.

    Egdon Resources has not been available for comment.

    Police are asking for your help to trace the family of 53-year-old Derek Charles Craven, external from Hull.

    Derek was found dead on Boxing Day at a house on Craven Street.

    Officers say his death isn't thought to be suspicious and attempts to find his family have so far failed.

    We've been hearing a trailer has been blown over on the bridge and emergency services are on the scene.

    Traffic in the area is extremely heavy as a result of the accident.

    Around 190 properties in North Ferriby are without water this afternoon.

    Yorkshire Water say they have had to turn it off because a burst water main was causing flooding in the area.

    The company has apologised and say repair work is underway.

    Showers will clear tonight and it will become dry with clear spells for a time before the risk of showers return towards dawn.

    Temperatures could get as low as 1C (34F) with icy patches possible in some places.

    The strong westerly wind will ease.

    Tomorrow it will be rather cloudy at first with scattered showers, but will become mostly dry with bright and sunny intervals developing.

    Highs tomorrow of 6C (43F) with light and variable winds.

    Strike action will still go ahead next week on Northern Rail despite talks between the operator and the RMT union.

    Journeys across East Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire will be affected.

    It is the latest action in a long-running dispute about the introduction of driver only trains.

    Union members will walk out on Monday, Wednesday and Friday next week.

    Northern Rail will run a reduced timetable as a result.

    The family of a 102-year-old woman from Bridlington say they have finally been able to give her the send-off she deserves - nearly four years after her death.

    Edith Negus was conned out of nearly £300,000 by her carer, Julie Sayles, who was later jailed.

    Before being caught in her thefts from Mrs Negus, Sayles had held a funeral for her - against her family's wishes.

    Edith's great niece Ann Ruthven told the BBC that the original funeral wasn't what Edith wanted and they wanted to be able to remember her for the person she was rather than for what happened to her with Sayles.

    At today's memorial service she described Edith as a lovely, warm and kind lady who loved people coming to visit.

    Today the family say they were able to say a proper goodbye to Edith and to remember her as she was.

    Sport is being used in Cleethorpes to help people with dementia, depression or who are suffering from loneliness.

    A new group has been set up by the Sporting Memories Foundation to help people talk about their memories of some of the big sporting moments in history and what part sport has played in their lives.

    Money for the project has been donated by St Hugh's Hospital in Grimsby.

    The group will meet every Tuesday at Grimsby Town Football Club from 16 January.

    Reports suggest Nigel Adkins watched the 27-year old Dutchman (pictured left) play recently, although he was already believed to be a target for City prior to Adkins' appointment.

    Sunderland and Derby are also said to be interested in the player.

    A woman in Hull is calling on the city council to do more to deal with the persistent damp issues she's experiencing in her rented house.

    Emma Parker says she reported the issues to the local authority back in April last year, but now has a shin-deep pool of water underneath the floor which she says is making her family ill.

    Emma showed me how bad the water problem is by dropping a stone through the floorboards:

    A leak in the mains water feed to Emma's house, and others nearby, has been found, according to Hull City Council.

    The authority says it hopes to meet with Emma on Friday to discuss what happens next.

  19. Hornsea flood warning for evening high tidepublished at 13:02 Greenwich Mean Time 4 January 2018

    A flood warning remains in place for Hornsea, external today ahead of this evening's high tide.

    That means flooding is expected and immediate action is required.

    High tides and unsettled weather conditions could lead to wave overtopping between 18:00 and 18:45.

    A year ago, high tides and strong winds led to flooding in the town.

    Lower level alerts also remain in place along the coast from Bridlington to Goole.

    The 22-year-old beat South Korea's Chung Hyeon in three sets to reach the quarter-finals of the Australian tennis tournament.

    Edmund could face the top seed Grigor Dimitrov from Bulgaria in the next round, which is scheduled for Friday evening.
