    BBC Look North

Thousands of nuisance calls have been prevented across East Yorkshire thanks to call-blocking technology.

    cold calls

Eight families have tested the technology in East Yorkshire which has been installed by Trading Standards teams.

It is aimed at protecting vulnerable people living with dementia by only allowing recognised numbers to get through.

The protected homes were receiving an average of 38 nuisance calls every month, according to Trading Standards.

Ronald Wilson, who nearly fell victim to a scam call, says he hasn't received a cold call for six months since signing up to the scheme.

    Quote Message

I think it gives you piece of mind, that the phone calls you get are genuine. I've found this is the case over the last six months."
