  6. You're being advised to get a flu jabpublished at 17:45 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2018

    There's been an increase in the number of people in Yorkshire being admitted to hospital with flu.

    Public Health England in the Yorkshire and the Humber region say the increase in cases is expected at this time of year and they say it isn't too late for people to get the flu vaccine.

  7. England's senior cricketers head to Australiapublished at 17:31 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2018

    While England's cricketers suffered disappointment in Australia, another, more senior team is hoping for better luck.

    England's over-70s side are currently making their final preparations and will be led by Nigel Ling from Hedon in East Yorkshire.

    The team are getting ready to tour Australia by training at the Leicester Cricket Academy.

    There are ten matches in total against Australia and Nigel says while you may lose agility as you get older, you never lose the ability.

    The tour begins at the end of February.

  8. Modern day slavery arrest in Briggpublished at 17:13 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2018

    A man's been arrested on suspicion of modern day slavery offences in North Lincolnshire.

    It was part of four arrests which were made following the raid on a travellers' site in Brigg.

    Earlier today officers searched the River View site on Mill Lane following investigations into a number of people.

    A 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of modern day slavery.

    Two men aged 42 and 21 have also been arrested on suspicion of growing and selling drugs and a 49-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of money laundering.

    Hull FC hooker Danny Houghton believes the family feel around the club can help contribute to greater success this coming season.

    Houghton, who's expected to be officially confirmed as the Black and Whites' new captain in the coming weeks, says that unity is what's lifted them to the next level in Super League.

    He says they have a great team who will go that extra mile for each other.

  11. Police hunting robber in distinctive coatpublished at 16:06 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2018

    The man wearing this distinctive coat, external is wanted in connection with a robbery in Hull.

    The robbery took place at Bootleggers off-licence on St George's Road at around 19:15 on 3 January.

    He demanded money from the cashier while another man kept a look-out.

    The suspect, who was almost 6ft and of medium build, had a foreign accent.

    Police are appealing for anyone with any information to contact them on the 101 number.

  12. Sport: Hull City team newspublished at 15:24 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2018

    Hull City head coach Nigel Adkins doesn't expect them to lose leading scorer Jarrod Bowen during this month's transfer window.

    Bowen has scored 11 goals for City this season but Adkins feels there's still more to come from the 21-year-old.

    He says he is still short of his full match fitness but that's something he has to work on.

  13. Road remains closed following water leakpublished at 15:05 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2018

    A main road in Beverley remains closed this afternoon, following a burst pipe.

    Water has now been restored to the Beckside area of the town.

    Yorkshire Water were called out to the incident at 02:00 today, which closed a number of schools and businesses in the area.

    Part of Flemingate between Spark Mill Lane and Holme Church Road remains fully closed this afternoon as Yorkshire Water carry out repairs.

    East Riding Leisure Centre, which was also closed due to the leak, say they will partially reopen today.

    The RMP class will be on at 17:15 and the gym and sports hall from 18:00.

    It's not yet known when the swimming pool will reopen, that depends when the temperature of the water gets back to normal.

  14. Vandals cause trains to be cancelled in Cleethorpespublished at 14:33 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2018

    A number of trains have been cancelled in Cleethorpes because they've had their windows smashed overnight.

    TransPennine Express say four trains were so "heavily vandalised" they has to pull the services.

    British Transport Police, who are now investigation the incident, say a large number of windows were broken in the incident.

  15. Damage caused to historic Beverley Gatepublished at 14:07 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2018

    Workers are back at Hull's historic Beverley Gate.

    It's after extensive damage has been done to the protective layer on top of the old town wall remains.

    Nigel Copsey, who's a specialist in traditional building methods, says a cover should be considered to prevent people climbing on the site.

  16. Water restored to homes and businesses in Beverleypublished at 13:18 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2018

    A number of schools, shops, businesses and roads in East Yorkshire have all had to close today because of a burst water main.

    Yorkshire Water engineers have been trying to fix the burst pipe in Beverley since 02:00 this morning.

    In the last hour, water has been restored to the affected area.

    The road, which was dug up to reach the pipe, still has to be repaired and it's not yet known when Flemingate, which is currently closed between Spark Mill Lane and Holme Church Lane, will reopen.

  17. Still no traveller sites in Grimsbypublished at 12:57 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2018

    Councillors in North East Lincolnshire will assess today whether enough progress is being made to find stopping sites for gypsies and travellers.

    There are currently no designated sites around Grimsby, although all councils are legally required to provide them.

    More than 1,000 potential locations have already been dismissed and now the council is asking people for suggestions.

  18. Burst water main: Damaged pipe removedpublished at 12:37 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2018

    Yorkshire Water engineers have found the burst pipe which has closed a major road in Beverley this morning.

    Engineers say they have removed the pipe and replaced it.

    They are now doing final checks and say the water should be back on within the next hour.

    The leak has closed three schools, and a leisure centre this morning.

    It's not known when the road will be reopened.

  19. Corrosive liquid thrown at teenagerspublished at 12:14 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2018

    Police are looking for this man after he threw liquid at three teenagers, external - missing them - but leaving burn marks on the grass.

    It happened last Wednesday 3 January near the Sutton Road underpass on Leads Road in Hull at around 16:00.

    The man on the bike became aggressive before throwing the liquid, which officers say could be some kind of cleaning fluid.

    When it missed the teenagers, he picked up the bottles and rode off.

    Police are asking for anyone with any information about the man, who's thought to be in his 20s to ring the 101 number.

  20. Burst water main closes three schools in Beverleypublished at 11:48 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2018

    A school in Beverley says a burst water main which has forced it to close for the day is causing disruption to the children.

    Angela Nicholl who's the head teacher at St John of Beverley Primary School says the children only started back at school yesterday.

    St John is one of three schools affected by the water leak.

    The head says they had to close because the school has run out of water, meaning toilets can't be flushed, children can't wash their hands and school lunches can't be made.

    Swinemoor Primary School is also closed and St Nicholas Primary is closed to all students apart from those in year six.

    Flemingate remains closed between Spark Mill Lane and Holme Church Lane while repairs are carried out by Yorkshire Water.
