  1. EMAS - 'If you see blue flashing lights, pull over'published at 11:18 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2018

    East Midlands Ambulance Service is urging drivers to be vigilant in looking out for blue lights.

    It's after crews were involved in 90 crashes during an eight month period last year, which were not their fault.

    The ambulance service, which covers northern Lincolnshire, is asking drivers not to panic when they see flashing blue lights and hear sirens and instead, look for somewhere safe to pull over.

  2. Loose horses force cycle track closurepublished at 10:46 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2018

    Horses running loose have closed a cycling track in Hull.

    The state of the art cycling circuit was opened less than 6 months ago but now un-tethered horse are roaming on the land.

    Cycling clubs in the city says it's because of poor fencing at the site next to Ennerdale Leisure Centre.

    Hull City Council say fencing is already in place around the cycle track and that they always try to work as quickly as possible with others to follow procedures and start any legal proceedings that are necessary.

  3. Police raid at traveller site in Briggpublished at 10:22 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2018

    Police are searching a traveller site in Brigg after an increase in crime around the area.

    Officers are currently at the River View traveller site on Mill Lane.

    They say investigations have identified key people believed to have links to the site and that they have warrants to gather evidence and make arrests.

    Humberside Police say they know that the vast majority of residents there are law abiding and hard working and are looking for specific people in relation to a number of reported crimes

  4. Burst main: Bottled water handed out to residentspublished at 09:50 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2018

    Yorkshire Water is handing out bottled water to people in Beverley who are being affected by the burst water main.

    The pipe in the Beckside area of the town has led to Flemingate being closed between Spark Mill Lane and Holme Church Lane.

    The company says the water should be back on this afternoon as engineers are on site following the call out at 02:00 this morning.

    Three schools have been closed as a result:

    • Beverley St Nicholas Primary School - Closed until further notice for all years except Year 6 pupils
    • St John of Beverley Primary School - Closed all day for all year groups
    • Swinemoor Primary School - closed all day

    East Riding of Yorkshire Council say Beverley Leisure center is also closed because of a lack of water and Beverley Children's Center will be closed all day.

  5. New homes for marina area of Hullpublished at 09:34 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2018

    Plans for £17m worth of new homes in Hull's Fruit Market area will be launched today.

    The developers Wykeland Beal say about 2,000 people have registered their interest in living in the area.

    The development is described as an urban village with just over 100 new homes planned.

  6. Water pipe burst: School closures in Beverleypublished at 08:49 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2018

    Swinemoor Primary School in Beverley is closed this morning because of a burst water pipe in the area.

    St Nicholas Primary School in Beverley is also closed for foundation to year 5 children. It is open for year 6 pupils though as the school has enough water to accommodate them.

    Beverley Leisure Centre is also closed due to the burst.

    Yorkshire Water have engineers on site trying to fix the problem between Spark Mill Lane and Holme Church Lane and have closed part of Flemingate.

    East Yorkshire Motor Services say they are diverting via Grovehill Road and can't stop at Flemingate.

    A number of homes in the area have no water or low pressure and it's thought the road may be seriously damaged because of the burst.

    Part of Flemingate in Beverley is closed this morning because of a burst water pipe.

    The area affected is between Spark Mill Lane and Holme Church Lane. A diversion is in place.

    Engineers are working to fix the water main.

    A number of homes in the area have no water or low pressure.

    Yorkshire Water says it's carrying out emergency repairs but adds that the road may have been seriously damaged. This will remain unconfirmed until the main is fixed.

    The work is likely to be ongoing throughout today.

    A Hull man has become the new president of the Fire Brigades Union.

    Ian Murray is the 13th president in the 100 year history of the union.

    Murray joined Humberside Fire and Rescue in 1994 and worked at both West Hull and Hull Central fire stations.

    In 2010 he became a full-time union official for the Yorkshire and Humber region and from 2014 became the FBU's vice-president.

    He was elected president after Alan McLean - who held the post since 2010 - retired.

  13. Plans to raise East Riding's council taxpublished at 17:30 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2018

    You'll find out if your council tax is going up by almost 6% in the East Riding when the council discuss the proposals next month.

    It is looking at a general increase of 2.99% as well as an extra 3% for adult social care.

    That means if you are in a band D property your council tax will go up by almost £80 a year.

    If it's given the go ahead it will raise over £9m for the council who say it is facing cuts of £40m from its budget by 2021.

  14. Safety fears lead to BHS building being boarded uppublished at 17:08 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2018

    The front of the old BHS building in Hull has been blocked off as part of measures to make the area safe.

    Hull City Council say asbestos was being exposed as some of the cladding was coming away which is why they put up the hoarding, in agreement with the building's owners.

    They council also adds that it is working with the homeless charity Emmaus to find accomodation for rough sleepers who had been camping below the canopy.

  15. Road works on one of Hull's busiest roadspublished at 16:55 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2018

    A section of one of Hull's busiest roads will be closed from today for repairs.

    The road works on Beverley Road will take place during off-peak times and overnight until 16 January.

    The area affected is from the Queens Road junction to the Cottingham Road junction.

    Diversion signs will be in place.

    Downing Street has confirmed David Davis, the Haltemprice and Howden MP will keep his job as the Brexit Secretary.

    Theresa May is continuing her third cabinet reshuffle since becoming Prime Minister.

    Mr Davis has been a pivotal figure as the UK negotiates leaving the European Union.

    Hull KR coach Tim Sheens says he is pleased by the way his side is shaping up ahead of the new season.

    After opening their pre-season campaign with a 28-6 victory against York City Knights, Sheens says they'll only get better as more players return from injury.

    He says he's hoping to have a fully fit team in the next few weeks.
