    Hull City Council's emblem will soon be returning to the KCOM Stadium.

    The signs were removed by the Superstadium Management Company (SMC) last year, to the dismay of councillors, but the firm has promised to put them back up.

    Relations between the Council and football club have been tense for some time over a number of disagreements between the two.

    But today a joint statement has been issued promising an improvement in relations between the two sides.

    The UKIP MEP for Yorkshire and the Humber, Mike Hookem, says he has got what it takes to lead UKIP and put the party back on track.

    He has joined calls for the party leader Henry Bolton to resign, amid allegations about his private life.

    Mr Hookem quit his role as assistant deputy leader of UKIP on Friday, but says he would be prepared to step in and lead the party.

    Speaking to the BBC Mr Hookem said he believes the party needs to re-engage with people.

    Members of a clifftop community in East Yorkshire says they're growing increasingly concerned about the rate of coastal erosion in their village.

    The residents in Tunstall near Withernsea, are fearful that official predictions about how quickly land is being washed into the sea have underestimated the threat.

    In recent weeks the former coastal road in Tunstall, pictured above, has quickly crumbled.

    The Hobsons', who live in a permanent parks home, say they were told that they didn't need to worry about coastal erosion.

  8. Flood prevention plans for Hessle Foreshore to be unveiledpublished at 16:01 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2018

    People living in Hessle will get the chance later this week to see proposals to protect the foreshore from tidal flooding.

    There will be an exhibition at Hessle Town Hall on Thursday from 10:00 to 18:00

    A total of 40 Homes and more than 40 commercial properties were flooded during the tidal surge in December 2013 and such events are predicted to be more common in future.

    The scheme will go ahead only if funding can be found, according to the East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

    A rare medieval "bishop's" ring found by a metal detectorist in a field close to Beverley Minster has sold for thousands at an auction held this afternoon.

    The 20-carat gold ring, which features an engraving of St George, went under the hammer for £7,100 pounds.

    Auction house experts have dated the ring as being from the 15th Century.

    It is not yet clear who the ring was sold to.

    Around 40,000 illegal cigarettes and five kilograms of illegal tobacco have been seized in Hull.

    Enforcement officers from Hull City Council’s Trading Standards team used tobacco detection dogs to find the contraband.

    Those found selling illegal tobacco can receive fines of up to £5,000 or two years in jail.

    Hull City striker Abel Hernandez won't renew his contract at the club and will be free to leave in the summer.

    That's according to quotes attributed to him in the Italian press today. His present deal is due to expire in the summer.

    The Uruguay international is expected back in action next month after a long-standing Achilles injury.

    The 27-year-old was Hull's £10 million record signing when he joined in 2014.

    A flood alert has been issued for Bridlington this evening.

    The "be prepared" alert is for the high tides on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.

    Overtopping waves and spray are expected around the South Pier area in Bridlington from 19:00 to 22:30 tonight and between 08:00 to 11:00 on Wednesday.

    A piece of work by a Lincolnshire artist which is currently on show in Hull is to go on display at the world famous Tate Modern Gallery.

    Jason Wilsher-Mills, who's from Sleaford, is currently showing Brave Boy Billy in Hull, after being the City of Culture's disabled artist in residence.

    The interactive sculpture will travel to London in March for an exhibition about disability in the arts.

    World number one Rafael Nadal withdrew during the quarter-final match with Cilic in the fifth set because of injury.

    Before leaving the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Nadal threw down his racquet in frustration.

    Kyle Edmund will face Marin Cilic on Thursday.

    Mike Hookem the UKIP Member of the European Parliament for Yorkshire and the Humber, has launched a scathing attack on their current leader Henry Bolton.

    Mr Hookem resigned as Assistant Deputy Leader after Mr Bolton refused to resign over social media comments made by his former girlfriend.

    Henry Bolton has insisted he will not quit as UKIP leader, saying it was "time to drain the swamp" of malcontents within the party.

    In a statement Mr Hookem said Henry Bolton was not listening to what the membership wants and a total lack of communication typifies his leadership to date.

    Following his quarter finals victory in the Australian Open, it's been announced that East Yorkshire's Kyle Edmund has been named in Great Britain's Davis Cup squad for next week's World Group match in Spain.

    The British number two, who has reached the Australian Open semi-finals, is joined by Cameron Norrie, Liam Broady, Jamie Murray and Dominic Inglot.

    Britain won the Davis Cup in 2015 and last played Spain in the event in 1986 when GB won the tie in Telford.

    The first-round tie from 2-4 February will be broadcast live on the BBC.

    Two people have appeared in court charged with the murder of a man who died following a street attack in Grimsby last week.

    Tony Richardson, 45, died in hospital after he was assaulted near the Halifax Bank in Grimsby last Monday.

    Marc Finnie, 44, appeared this morning at Hull Crown Court. His wife, Sarah Finnie, 36, appeared via video-link from prison.

    No pleas were entered and the couple, of Sutcliffe Avenue, Grimsby, were both remanded in custody, with the case listed for 8 May.

  20. London-Hull rail services cancelledpublished at 10:59 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2018

    Hull Trains, external has tweeted that its 13:48 service from London Kings Cross to Hull has been cancelled.

    The train operator says this - and earlier cancellations - is due to more trains than usual needing repairs at the same time.

    This morning has already seen the 07:22 and 10:30 trains cancelled between the two cities.
