  1. New arrest in Grimsby murder investigationpublished at 10:09 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2018

    A third person has been arrested as part of the investigation into the death of 45-year-old Tony Richardson in Grimsby.

    Mr Richardson was assaulted on Old Market Place on Monday 15 January and died later in hospital.

    A 34-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and perverting the course of justice.

    Marc Finnie, 44, and Sarah Finnie, 36, both of Sutcliffe Avenue in Grimsby, have been charged with murder and they're due to appear before Hull Crown Court later today.

    East Yorkshire tennis coach Paul Layfield has told the BBC that Kyle Edmund's progression into the semi-finals of the Australian Open was not a surprise for those who know them.

    Edmund, from Beverley, beat Grigor Dimitrov in four sets.

    He will either face top seed Rafael Nadal or sixth seed Marin Cilic on Thursday for a place in the final.

    A rare medieval "bishop's" ring found by a metal detectorist in a field close to Beverley Minster is expected to sell for thousands at auction later.

    The ring, which features an engraving of St George, has a guide price of between £8,000-£10,000.

    Hansons Auctioneers believe the 20-carat gold ring probably belonged to a bishop or nobleman.

    The ring, which dates back to between 1450-1550, was found by metal detectorist Adam Day.

    Smith, from Epworth, is nominated in the Best Drama Performance category for her role in The Moorside as Julie Bushby.

    The BBC docudrama was about the faked abduction of Shannon Matthews.

    Smith is up against David Tennant, Jenna Coleman, Suranne Jones and Tom Hardy for the award.

  7. Horsebox destroyed in Ryedale arson attackpublished at 08:43 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2018

    A horsebox has been destroyed by fire and another nearby vehicle sprayed with obscene graffiti in North Yorkshire.

    The incident happened on Bleaberry Lane, near Scrayingham in Ryedale, at about 13:30 on Saturday, with the horsebox fire being treated by police as an arson attack.

    Anyone with information about what happened, especially anyone who passed the area and saw anyone acting suspiciously, is being asked to come forward.

    Drivers with dash cam footage from the area at or around the time of the incident are also being sought by police.

    Beverley's Kyle Edmund has stunned third seed Grigor Dimitrov to reach his first Grand Slam semi-final at the Australian Open.

    Edmund was playing in the last eight of a major for the first time but showed few nerves in a 6-4 3-6 6-3 6-4 win.

    The world number 49 becomes only the sixth British man to reach the last four at a Grand Slam in the Open era.

    He will play top seed Rafael Nadal or sixth seed Marin Cilic on Thursday for a place in the final.

    Hull residents are being asked to submit their best photos of the bridge for the #YourBridge project.

    The project is now in its second month and will run throughout the year. The theme for this month is Mist and the Bridge.

    The winning entry for each month will be featured on the Humber Bridge website and Facebook page, and the 12 winning images of the year will be compiled into a calendar.

    The deadline for entries for this month is 4 February.

    Humberside Police have issued a warning following a number of burglaries in the Bridlington area.

    The UKIP MEP for Yorkshire and the Humber, Mike Hookem, has resigned as Assistant Deputy Leader of the party.

    Mr Hookem is calling on UKIP leader Henry Bolton to quit over offensive texts sent by his ex-girlfriend.

    Yesterday UKIP's ruling national executive committee (NEC) unanimously backed a vote of no confidence in party leader.

    Mr Hookem said "the story has become about the leader's personal life" and a distraction from what the party is fighting for.

    The MEP has put his name forward to become a potential interim leader of UKIP.

  19. Major Hull company looks to reduce plastic wastepublished at 13:56 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January 2018

    Hull-based food producer Cranswick is the latest company to announce its intention to reduce its plastic usage.

    The company has told BBC Radio Humberside it will aim to introduce 100% recyclable packaging which will be sustainably sourced.

    Cranswick is a major employer in the city.
