    A police chief's call to punish drivers for going 1mph over the limit has been criticised.

    Chief constable Anthony Bangham, the National Police Chiefs' Council lead on road policing, says deaths and injuries would be cut if speeding laws were strongly enforced and the current 10% leeway scrapped.

    But Pete Musgrave, chair of the Humberside Police Federation, says it's just not enforecable:

    A piece of street art which is rumoured to be Hull's second Banksy has now been covered in a protective layer.

    It's about 100 yards from the piece on the Scott Street Bridge which was defaced before being saved by a window cleaner!

    Hull City Council covered the original mural to protect it from further damage.

    The Humberside and Lincolnshire police forces are discussing how they might work together.

    The Lincolnshire force already works with other forces in the East Midlands in areas including firearms, traffic officers, police dogs, serious crime and forensics.

    But Lincolnshire's Chief Constable, Bill Skelly, says he wants to see greater collaboration between the neighbouring forces:

    The final go-ahead has been given to replace a busy roundabout near Grimsby with traffic lights.

    The Toll Bar roundabout will be removed and replaced with traffic lights at a cost of £2.1m, a plan which has attracted opposition from local residents.

    North East Lincolnshire Council says the scheme will improve safety by providing crossing points for pedestrians and cyclists and both reduce journey times and traffic queues.

    Bridlington's Marks and Spencer is among a number of the supermarket chain's stores which have been earmarked for closure, it's emerged today.

    The Bridlington announcement could mean the loss of 40 jobs, with M&S saying it is a difficult but necessary decision.

    Reaction locally is mixed:

    In the wake of the announcement, East Riding of Yorkshire Council says the planned closure is "disappointing".

    Nigel Atkinson, head of the council's Bridlington Renaissance Partnership, says it remains "committed to regenerating Bridlington":

    There are some exciting plans afoot for Hull's Bankside.

    Spray Creative, external and Councillor Alan Clark are pushing to make the area an urban gallery and artistic hub with the hope street art will help regenerate the area around a new Banksy piece.

    The stencilled Banksy design depicts a child carrying a wooden sword with a pencil attached to the end, next to the text "Draw the raised bridge!"

  10. 'Like Moon is dripping blood' - Watch the skies tonight...published at 14:27 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2018

    You'll be able to see a rare "super blue Moon" in the sky tonight, clouds permitting.

    Here's what the Moon looked like from Goole a couple of days ago - but tonight's sight could be very different:

    It will be the second full Moon this month, making this evening's a "blue Moon".

    It will also appear much bigger than usual because it is at the closest point in its orbit to the Earth.

    Michael Martin-Smith, president of the Hull and East Riding Astronomical Society, says we'll see a significant difference:

The other thing [people] can see is a blood or coppery coloured Moon which happens at total lunar eclipses, which is the thing people will see at approximately midnight. Sometimes it's very dramatic.     Hull City Council says it is undertaking one of the biggest council housing schemes in the country.

    It plans to build 620 new homes a year, 250 of which will be council houses for older people.

    It will also build more smaller bungalows to house an estimated 45% rise in the number of over 65s.

    Councillor John Black says they want to build as much as they can:

    It could the the setting for a Scooby Doo cartoon, but those pesky kids will have to fight off the crowds for a piece of this former theme park in Cleethorpes.

    Pleasure Island closed down just over a year ago and some of the rides have been sold - but not everything has gone.

    Now it's all being auctioned off and 10,000 people are expected to visit the site during two viewing days before it goes under the hammer on 7 and 8 March.

    A "quirky" collector wants you to raid your sheds, lofts, cupboards and cellars for old milk bottles...

    Steve Wheeler runs a museum in Worcestershire (pictured) which includes more than 20,000 different bottles from various dairy companies around the world, some dating back as far as the 1880s.

    But at the moment he has more from Belgium than he has from Lincolnshire or from Hull.

    Steve and his wife are passing through both areas soon and are keen to pick up any bottles you may have hidden away.

    A Hull pharmaceutical firm says it's investing at least £5m in the city in the next two years and creating 100 jobs.

    Doctors in East Yorkshire do and say they have been able to almost double the number of operations they do on prostate cancer patients because of robot-assisted surgery.

    The robotic technology is also now being used for many other conditions and surgeons at Castle Hill Hospital say a second machine's needed to cope with growing demand.
