If you are looking for a handyman, builder or someone to do a few jobs around the house, you might decide to go online to look for recommendations.

However, a BBC Inside Out investigation has found that some fraudulent tradespeople are able to advertise their services on two trusted trade websites, without any experience at all.

    Fake profile on website

I decided to test this out by setting up a handyman profile on Rated People and MyBuilder, after creating a fake website and email address.

I was surprised at how easy it was to award myself a reliable-looking five star rating and positive feedback.

Rated People and MyBuilder have both told the BBC they encourage property owners to do their own homework and check reviews before hiring.
