    Variable cloud, some sunnier spells and the risk of an isolated shower this afternoon but dry for most.

    It will be largely dry through tonight with a mixture of cloud and clear periods but it will turn cold with the risk of a frost developing.

    Production at a Hull biofuel company which suspended its operations at the end of last year may soon be under way again, it's emerged.

    Vivergo announced plans to extend its annual shutdown period in November last year, blaming falling prices and a lack of government legislation.

    Hull West and Hessle Labour MP Emma Hardy has urged the government to press on with bringing in new laws on renewable transport fuels and says it's suggested that will happen later this year:

    An East Yorkshire nurse has been shortlisted for an award for her dedication and commitment.

    Charlene Sargeant is a practice nurse at Field House Surgery in Bridlington and a finalist in the General Practice Nurse of the Year Award category of the General Practice Nursing Awards.

    She will find out if she's won next Wednesday.

    Hull-based company Sewell Group have been named in the Sunday Times' list of the 100 best companies to work for in the UK., external

    It's the fourth time the firm has been named in the list in the past ten years.

    The company, which employs more than 400 people in the city, also received a Best Companies 3 Star 'extraordinary' accreditation, which recognises organisations that 'truly excel'.

    North East Lincolnshire Council's budget plans were thrown into disarray last night.

    The proposal, including an increase to council tax of almost 5%, was rejected by opposition Tory councillors.

    They've been been criticised by some Labour councillors who've accused them of having no alternative to their budget proposals.

    The budget will have to be looked at again at another meeting next week.

    The Hull Jobcentre at Britannia House on Ferensway has had to close unexpectedly due to a gas leak.

    The number of people in Yorkshire and the Humber with mental health problems who use Citizens Advice reached 10,000 last year, the service says.

    Their research has also found that mental health workers are spending more time on non-health related issues such as debt or housing.

    Some debt groups want people with mental health problems to be given breathing space when it comes to debts.

  12. Two rescued safely after fishing vessel sinks off Hornseapublished at 17:32 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2018

    Two men have been rescued from off the East Yorkshire coast this afternoon after their fishing boat sank near Hornsea.

    The HM Coastguard was alerted just before 14:00 and immediately launched the search and rescue helicopter.

    Lifeboats were also sent from Bridlington and Hornsea but both men were picked up safe and well by another nearby fishing boat before they arrived.

    Ryan Douglas, from HM Coastguard, says the two men involved in the incident did all the right things:

    Four cars and several recycling bins on a Grimsby estate were deliberately set on fire during the early hours of this morning.

    The fires took place on the East Marsh estate between 12:55 and 01:30.

    Three parked cars were damaged on Bedford Street and another one on Victor Street (pictured), along with recycling bins nearby Garibaldi Street.

    The vehicles, a black Kia Carens, a blue Kia Picanto, a black Nissan Qashqai and a white Ford Fiesta, suffered varying degrees of damage before the fires were extinguished.

    Humberside Police are keen to speak to a woman with blonde hair who was seen in the area at the time.

    Hundreds of lecturers at the University of Hull have walked out in a nationwide row over changes to their pensions.

    The University College Union claims the changes could leave them up to £10,000 a year worse off in retirement.

    Today's strike is among 14 over the next month across the country and means thousands of students will be affected.

    Universities minister Sam Gyimah has called for more negotiations.
