    East Riding's teachers took a total of 5,156 days off in 2016 to 2017 due to stress and mental health problems.

    There were 106 teachers off for more than a month each, that's up 39% on the previous year.

    The figures come from a Freedom of Information (FoI) request submitted by the Liberal Democrats.

    Lib Dem Councillor Denis Healy says excessive workloads are damaging teacher's wellbeing and mental health and is asking the East Riding Council to write to the government.

    A number of tradesmen in Hull haven't been paid by MLS Group.

    Some say they are owed thousands of pounds by the project managing firm, which sponsors Hull Kingston Rovers.

    MLS says it is in dispute with a client over money owed, which has caused the company short-term cash flow problems and it has apologised to the contractors affected.

    One of MLS Group's companies has also gone into liquidation.

    The Humber region's growing offshore wind industry is being shown as an example for regeneration to a delegation from the United States.

    A delegation from America is visiting the region hoping to learn how offshore wind power is being developed.

    It comes after civic leaders in Massachusetts said they wanted to copy what's happening here.

    This week's visit has been organised by the Humber Marine Alliance.

    Plans to build almost 200 homes in North East Lincolnshire have been met with scores of objections.

    Nearly 150 people have written to the council opposed to plans for the development in Waltham.

    Waltham Parish Council says the homes would have an adverse impact on road safety in the village by increasing traffic.

    The developer, Cyden Homes, has proposed extra public transport measures for the development, including a zebra crossing and bus stop.

    Planners will decide whether the scheme can go ahead at a meeting in Grimsby at the end of February.

    Plans to crack down on the owners of vacant and derelict buildings in Hull have been given the go-ahead.

    Hull City councillors have voted to adopt a new strategy meaning they can inspect derelict buildings more often and take action against owners who don't look after them.

    It means more can be done to save buildings like the Lord Line, the George Lamb Memorial Chapel (pictured) and the Hull National Picture Theatre.

    This man is being sought by police after being released from prison, external and breaking the terms of his licence.

    Kevin Charles Kirk, 51, from Hull was last seen in the Morley area of Leeds on 15 February.

    Humberside Police say they've tried to find him but have so far been unsuccessful.

    Anyone with any information about his whereabouts is being asked to call 101.

    A woman's been robbed at a cash machine, external in Hull.

    It happened outside the RBS bank on Silver Street at about 19:00 yesterday.

    The woman, who'd just used the cash machine, was threatened by a man who then stole her money.

    He's described as white, about 5ft 7ins tall, with a scarred or spotty complexion and wearing a grey hooded jacket, tracksuit bottoms and a tweed scarf.

    Police are appealing for information.

  11. Hull commuters urged to 'leave cars at home'published at 17:01 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2018

    Congestion in parts of Hull should improve once people start planning new ways to travel and "leave their car at home", a city councillor has said.

    Martin Mancey's comments come as work to improve flood defences gets under way in the city, meaning the closure of a major route into Hull for three months.

    Part of Bankside by the River Hull is closed between Clough Road and Air Street as work on the Environment Agency's £36.5m scheme to protect 60,000 homes in the city begins.

    Councillor Mancey is urging people to use public transport where possible:

    A luxury bed maker from Leeds is investing £1.8m in a new wire drawing facility at British Steel's site in Scunthorpe.

    The facility will make fine wire used for pocket springs in Harrison Spinks mattresses.

    A total of 22 new jobs will be created and the facility is expected to be up and running by April.

    Rhona Hall was in a bar in Hull when the owner's son took a photo of her under her clothing.

    Looking back at the incident, she says: "This is the most disgusting photo anyone could ever have taken of that part of me...and I just screamed at him to delete it".

    There's currently no law banning so-called "upskirting" and it's thought many cases go unreported.

    But there are calls to make it a specific criminal offence, with campaigners demanding urgent changes to the law to make looking or secretly filming up a woman's skirt illegal.

    A distinctive air rifle has been stolen in a burglary in Holme-on-Spalding-Moor.

    The theft happened on Sunday 11 February while the owners were out.

    The rifle has an "unusual" wooden handle and is easily identifiable, according to police.

    Cash and jewellery, external were also taken from the house on Hawthorn Drive.

    Police are appealing for information.

  15. Total of '110 designated suspects' over Rotherham abusepublished at 15:04 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2018

    A senior officer leading the investigation into historic child abuse in Rotherham says the team has identified 110 "designated suspects".

    Paul Williamson, who is leading Operation Stovewood at the National Crime Agency, also said there are 144 officers working on 34 distinct investigations.

    During a briefing in Sheffield, it was also revealed that the number of potential victims and survivors has increased from 1,400 to 1,510.

    At least 1,300 victims and survivors are female.

    To date the investigation has collated, analysed and electronically recorded material from local agencies covering the 16 years between 1997 and 2013.

    Over 16,000 students will be affected by 14 days of strike action at the University of Hull.

    The strike by the University and College Union (UCU), which starts on Thursday, is part of a row over pensions.

    The university is one of 64 institutions which will be affected by the walkouts over the next four weeks.

    Disability campaigners say that the lack of changing facilities for disabled people can cause physical and emotional harm.

    Scunthorpe mum Lorna Fillingham, whose seven-year-old daughter has learning disabilities, is calling for improved toilet facilities for disabled people at Downing Street today.

    Campaigners want to see more loos where disabled children and adults can be changed by their parents and carers.

    This requires an adult changing bed and a hoist, which are not included in most disabled toilets.

    Police want to speak to this man about the assault of a 12 year-old boy in Bilton, external in East Yorkshire:

    It happened on 29 January at 07:40 at the bus stop outside the Asda on Main Road.

    The boy was left with minor injuries after the assault.

    Police are appealing for information.

  19. Grimsby fire 'caused by electric heater'published at 13:48 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2018

    A man's been taken to hospital after a fire at a flat in Grimsby.

    Three fire engines were called to Willingham Street at around 21:20 last night.

    The man was given CPR and oxygen at the scene but it is not known how badly injured he may be.

    The property was left severely fire and smoke damaged, external.

    It's thought the cause of the fire was an electric heater being too close to furniture.
