    Lecturers at the University of Hull are taking part in a third day of strike action over pensions.

    Members of the University and College Union at 57 institutions are continuing their action today, tomorrow and on Wednesday.

    They say proposed changes to their pension scheme could see lecturers losing as much as £10,000 a year.

    Universities UK, which represents the institutions, has suggested that the proposed changes might not need to be permanent.

    A fire has destroyed a building used by a playgroup in North Lincolnshire.

    Emergency crews were called to deal with the fire at Burton Play, in Burton upon Stather in the early hours of yesterday.

    The playgroup is closed today, but the organisers say they are trying to find a temporary venue in the village as soon as possible.

    Manchester City's win at Wembley was not the only football cup event taking place over the weekend.

    The 2018 FA People's Cup - the biggest five-a-side tournament in the country - kicked off with more than 50,000 players taking part across 278 venues.

    People living on a Hull housing estate will be treated to a performance from Opera North today.

    The company will be performing a 30 minute version of Don Giovanni on the Thornton Estate, as part of a project to bring opera to the community.

    Opera North is running a series of singing workshops and performances in the area, as part of the In Harmony community programme which is aiming to build on the legacy of Hull's City of Culture year.

  6. Humberside officers face misconduct hearingspublished at 08:28 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2018

    A hearing will start today into the conduct of two Humberside Police officers accused of spying on the family of a man who died in police custody.

    Former paratrooper Christopher Alder, 37, died in Hull in 1998. An inquest found he died unlawfully.

    His sister, Janet Alder (pictured), was placed under surveillance in 2000.

    The Independent Police Complaints Commission said it "found evidence of a case to answer" for two Humberside Police detective sergeants.

    The hearing will determine whether the officers breached standards of professional behaviour.

    There's a yellow weather warning of snow in parts of East Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire this morning.

    There have already been a few flurries of snow in places and it looks like there is a light covering in Scartho, Grimsby (pictured).

    Temperatures aren't expected to rise above 1C today.
