Staff at the Animal Education Centre in East Park found the injured wallaby on Friday 23 February.
She was put to sleep by a vet and the joey she was carrying also died.
A post-mortem examination carried out today found an air pellet lodged in the animal's skull which it's thought may have been there for over a week.
It's thought someone broke into East Park between Saturday 10 and Tuesday 20 February and shot the wallaby while it was in its pen.
Anyone with information about the incident is being asked to contact police.
Michael Jolley, Grimsby Town's new manager, says he feels it's the right call by the club to keep on Paul Wilkinson as his assistant manager.
Jolley will work with Wilkinson, who took caretaker charge following Russell Slade's sacking last month.
Jolley says he's comfortable with the club's decision and says Wilkinson knows the players and the staff well.
Hull playwright John Godber has been honoured at a special ceremony at Buckingham Palace.
Godber is a miner's son and former teacher whose stage hits include Bouncers, Happy Jack and Up 'n' Under.

John Godber (pictured above) said the honour was a great surprise as he showed off his OBE received today from the Duke of Cambridge.
Dave Steenvoorden, who is the Humber Lifeboat coxswain and who received an MBE, said he was so emotional he had "a bit of Spurn dust in his eye".
A blue plaque to commemorate one of Hull's most famous philanthropists has been unveiled in the city.
Zachariah Pearson gave the land for Pearson Park to the city in 1862.
A blue plaque now decorates the wall of the house around the corner from where he lived for almost 30 years.
His great-great-granddaughter Marian Shaw (pictured) was there for the unveiling.
Around £3m is being spent on protecting part of Goole from sewer flooding when there's heavy rainfall.
Yorkshire Water says the work will protect homes and businesses around the fire station.
New larger sewers will be installed along with an overflow tank and pumping station.
As the work progresses, part of Potter Grange Road and Larsen Road will be closed.
Yorkshire Water has spent a total of £15m on other similar schemes in Goole over the last few years.
The work is expected to take around a year to complete.

A watchdog has raised concerns over the safety of people held by Humberside Police.
A report by HM Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services said it had "found a number of potential ligature points in all suites across the force custody estate".
There were also issues with providing "appropriate adults" supervision for all children and vulnerable adults.
The force said it was improving areas that fall below the standards.
The former chairman of the Co-operative Bank has been banned from the financial services industry by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
Paul Flowers, who also used to be a Methodist minister and was a superintendent methodist minister in Bridlington for a decade has been told he's demonstrated a "lack of fitness and propriety".
He was also a councillor in Bradford.
Mr Flowers was chairman of the bank at the time of its near collapse in 2013 when it was revealed there was a £1.5bn black hole in the accounts.
The FCA found he had used his work email for sexually explicit messages and to discuss illegal drugs.
He left amid concerns about expenses and in 2014 admitted drug possession.

Thousands of lobsters and other marine life have been washed on to the beaches over the past couple of days.
Shellfishermen in Bridlington rescued juvenile lobsters from the beaches and returned them to the sea in the last couple of days.
