    The race itself has been cancelled due to flooding and damage cause by recreational off-road vehicles.

    Next year will mark 500 years for England's oldest horse race.

    The warning comes into effect from 15:00 tomorrow.

    The Met Office warn of some roads and railways being affected with longer journey time.

    We're being told to watch out for icy patches on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

    Hull Truck Theatre saw its audience numbers go up by 22% last year during City of Culture.

    They reckon visitors from 97% of all UK postcodes areas went to an event at the theatre.

    Overall 88,000 people went to see a production at the Hull Truck during 2017.

    Over 5 million people visited Hull during City of Culture.

    There are so many cafes and restaurants in the centre of Beverley it could threaten the town's place as a shopping destination, that's according to officials at the East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

    They say 40% of the shops in the town centre are food outlets.

    They're recommending plans for a new café on Lairgate next week should be turned down, on the grounds it would make the problem worse.

    The Girmsby Ice Factory has been labelled one of the most endangered buildings in Europe.

    It is understood to be the oldest ice factory in the United Kingdom and has been in a state of serious decline since its closure in 1990.

    The roof is now severely damaged allowing water into the building, and much of its metal work and electrical fittings have been stolen.

    Europa Nostra, a European heritage organisation say they will travel to Grismby to see the site and see what can be done to save the building.

    Kyle Spreadmund, David Plowie, Maureen Gritman and Nicole Saltslinger are some of the names which have been given to the East Riding of Yorkshire's 21 gritters.

    Five-year-old Theo Cothill, of Beverley, who inspired the council to name its fleet, was the guest of honour for the official naming of the gritters.

    The 21 names were chosen by the council’s winter team and gritter drivers.

    More than 100 names were suggested by members of the public via Twitter and Facebook following an appeal in January.

    The dancers, who have made the final of the BBC One show five times between them, stressed they would continue their professional partnership.

    Revealing the news on Chris Evans' BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show, Kevin said they were still "the best of friends".

    The pair, who go on tour together later this year, said they wanted the news in the open after recent speculation.

    The Saltend Industrial Park in Hull has a new owner.

    The site is made up of a number of companies which manufactures more than a million tonnes of chemical products a year.

    Teesside-based PX Group has acquired the site and says it intends to work with the companies already on the park and wants to expand the site.

    About 50 Jobs from BP will transfer over to the PX Group, it's been confirmed.

    Parents in East Yorkshire were issued the second highest number of fines for children's school truancy and term-time holidays in the country last year, new figures show.

    Nationally, parents across England and Wales have been fined about £24m for failing to send their children to school during the past three years, it has emerged.

    On average, 12 penalties were issued per 1,000 children, whether for truancy or for parents taking children away on holiday during term time during 2016-17.

    East Riding of Yorkshire Council issued 63 penalties per 1,000 pupils, five times above the national average.

    One jockey will lead a horse along the track of the historic Kiplingcotes Derby later in a bid to keep the centuries-old tradition going despite it officially being cancelled this year.

    The race proper won't go ahead due to flooding and damage caused by recreational off-road vehicles.

    But tradition has it that if a horse doesn't complete the course one year, the race has to be stopped for good.

    A celebration is planned for next year to mark 500 years of England's oldest horse race.

    The former BHS building in Scunthorpe is to become the new location for an indoor market for the town as part of a £60m redevelopment, it's been announced.

    Thousands of people have signed a petition calling on North Lincolnshire Council to think again about making the move, with some traders telling the BBC the new location is not practical and ill-conceived.

    But council leader Rob Waltham says the authority will continue to speak with traders about the change:

  18. Hull City of Culture year brings major tourism boostpublished at 08:00

    Over five million people visited Hull last year for its year of City of Culture celebrations in 2017.

    The findings are from a new report by the University of Hull which looks at the impact the City of Culture year has had on the area.

    It also shows more than half of businesses increased their turnover in 2017, with a quarter hiring more staff.

    Tourism was worth more than £300m to the city last year, the statistics show.

    The leader of Hull City Council says the findings of the City of Culture impact report has surpassed his expectations.

    Lincolnshire could receive millions of pounds of extra funding for major road improvements.

    A consultation is taking place at the moment into a proposed Major Road Network, external, which would see the most important local routes grouped together.

    If it goes ahead, each area will get a share of £1bn of extra funding which councils can apply for and use to pay for things like repairs or even create dual carriageways and bypasses.

    The A15 from Lincoln to Scunthorpe and the A17 from Newark to Norfolk are amongst the roads which could form part of the network.
