    A 13-year-old boy has been charged with arson with intent to endanger life, external in connection with a fire in Cleethorpes in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

    Police believe the fire on Harrington Street was an isolated incident and not linked to any of the other reported arson offences during the winter.

    Paul Matson, a builder from Hull, who runs a charity that helps dozens of military veterans, external, says he was left sobbing on his doorstep after thousands of pounds worth of tools were stolen from his van:

    However, as news of his predicament spread support from local people has grown.

    More than 75 pledges of support have already been made to a fundraising page, external set up to replace the tools.

    Paul says he is overwhelmed and touched by the offers of help.

    Managers at Hull College say they are unaware of a vote of no confidence in chief executive Michelle Swinthenbank.

    Today members of the University and Union College (UCU) are calling for Michelle Swithenbank to stand down.

    The ongoing dispute is over plans to cut 231 posts.

    However, the college group, which also runs sites in Harrogate and Goole, says they have not been informed of today's vote.

    They also warn, having consulted lawyers, that staff who attended a protest yesterday about cuts could be in breach of contract if they attended the demonstration.

    Organisers of the Beverley Elite cycle race say the sport's governing body British Cycling has become too corporate and is out of touch with grassroots fans.

    They have cancelled this year's race blaming the body's decision to make them submit a tender for the privilege of running it and banning sponsorship from local businesses.

    The race has attracted up to 20,000 spectators in the past and has been shown live on Eurosport TV.

    British Cycling has so far declined to comment.

    Work to extend and refurbish the NICU at Hull Women and Children’s Hospital cost £45,000.

    Staff are now planning to raise funds to refurbish the Blue Room, the area where seriously ill babies are nursed by the team.

    Managers say the extra room is much needed and the improved facilities mean better care.

    Staff at Hull College are calling for the immediate resignation of chief executive Michelle Swithenbank.

    Members of the University and College Union (UCU) at the college today unanimously backed a vote of no confidence in her.

    Yesterday staff voted to strike over plans to cut around a third of the workforce.

    Hull College Group, which runs colleges in Hull, Goole and Harrogate, has begun a restructuring plan to deal with a £10m deficit.

    The union said it expects to announce strike dates in the next few days.

    The Labour MP for Hull West and Hessle has condemned a company with a base in Hull for not providing sick pay to all employees.

    FCC Environment collects and processes waste.

    Some rubbish collections in Hull were affected by two strikes by staff at the city's Wilmington plant last month.

    They want to share the same rights to paid sick leave as FCC Environment's managers and supervisors.

    Speaking in Business Questions today in Parliament Emma Hardy said sick pay was a basic right and said it was "disgusting" that the Spanish parent company did not provide it for all employees.

    Ms Hardy is now calling on the government to make it harder for employers to refuse to provide sick pay.

    Humberside Police is fighting crimes against badgers, external.

    The force says issues of badger digging and killing is more common than people might think.

    Badgers and their setts are protected under the Protection of Badgers Act 1992 and other relevant wildlife and animal welfare legislation.

    They can only be killed or their sett disturbed under licence from Natural England in limited circumstances.

    Officers are working with East Yorkshire Badger Protection Group, external (EYBPG) to drive down wildlife crime which they say is barbaric and unnecessary.

    Police in Hull have arrested a man after an armed stand-off in Hull's Frome Road last night.

    Officers were called at 21:20 following reports that a man had a suspected firearm and was threatening people in a house.

    Armed officers went to the scene and arrested a 36-year-old man on Welland Road early this morning.

    Police say they believe there is no risk to the wider public.
