    Organisers of the Tour de Yorkshire, external say star rider Mark Cavendish will take part in this year's event.

    They say he's recovered from injury sooner than expected after a dramatic crash in Milan in March.

    The East Riding of Yorkshire Council is recommending that wardens working in sheltered accommodation should no longer live on-site and be accessible via phone instead.

    There is growing concern for the safety of missing Grimsby man Darren Clark (pictured).

    The 41-year-old has not been seen since he left home yesterday morning to go into the town centre and Freeman Street.

    The alarm was raised when he did not pick up his children from school as planned.

    Police say he has never been missing before and this is completely out of character, external.

    Lloyds Banking Group has announced this Derringham branch is one of the 49 closing nationwide with the loss of more than 300 jobs across the country.

    Course chief executive, Sally Iggulden, says it is disappointing when given another 24 hours the course would probably be runnable.

    A strike ballot closes today over potential job losses at Hull College.

    The college has plans to shed more than 200 full-time posts to help fix its finances.

    Managers say changes have to be made to keep the college going but unions are worried about the impact on teaching and courses.

    Lloyds banking group, which also owns the Halifax, has announced it's closing more branches across Yorkshire.

    The latest closures including the Halifax Branch on Davygate in York and Lloyds in West Yorkshire's Sowerby Bridge (pictured).

    It was announced in December last year that Lloyds branches in Ripon and Pocklington were to close.

    Nationally 49 branches are shutting with the loss of more than 300 jobs.

  13. Ministry of Justice pleased with Humber prison progresspublished at 17:57 British Summer Time 17 April 2018

    HMP Humber says it has reduced the amount of illegal drugs coming into the prison by photocopying prisoners' mail.

    Prison officers have started copying letters to stop inmates getting hold of drugs in the post after finding some had been soaked in drugs, which could later be smoked by inmates.

    The prison says this has resulted in fewer incidents but the prisons inspector has called the decision intrusive, external and says it's made prisoners very angry.

    The Ministry of Justice says it is pleased that the Inspectorate have acknowledged the progress made at Humber.

    A fashion show is being held in Hull tonight to help raise money for refugees who've made their way to Northern France.

    Hull Help for Refugees, external says thousands of people are gathering in places, such as Calais and Dunkirk, with no shelter or basic amenities.

    The organisation has been collecting supplies, external to take over to those in need but says some donations aren't appropriate, so they will now be for sale at the city's Jubilee Church to raise money for things like sleeping bags.

    What do all these objects have in common?

    The answer is that all of these everyday items feature designs produced by lasers made in East Yorkshire.

    Rofin-Sinar, external are based on the Bridgehead Business Park in Hessle where they employ 170 people.

    Recently the BBC reported Levi Strauss is ramping up its use of lasers to automate the way its jeans are made.

    The firm says the new techniques will reduce chemical use and make the way in which jeans are faded, distressed and ripped more efficient.

    A man from East Yorkshire who cycled to Brighton and took part in the marathon, external is due to return home later today.

    Anthony Raspin left Goole and started peddling the 300 miles to Brighton last Wednesday.

    Sunday saw him putting on his running shoes, and dressing up as a wine bottle to run a marathon.

    Anthony is now cycling back having raised £1,396 so far, for the Get Kids Going, external charity.

    There are fears an iconic mural in Hull has been damaged.

    The three ships design on the old BHS building has been in place since the 1960s.

    The council intends to save it when it redevelops the land and initial work is underway inside the old department store.

    However, those who campaigned to save it say a small hole has appeared at the bottom of the mosaic.

    Hull City Council says it is the result of initial investigation work on a piece of already damaged mural.
