    A Romanian man has been charged with two counts of using threatening or abusive words or behaviour in connection with reports of a man following women in North East Lincolnshire.

    32-year-old Cosmin Toaba, of Coningsby Drive, Grimsby, is due to appear before Grimsby and Cleethorpes Magistrates Court on 29 May.

    A scheme to tackle motorcycle crime in Hull has been so successful it's to be rolled out across the Humberside force area.

    Officers say seven bikes were seized and three people were arrested during just one week of action as part of Operation Yellowfin, external.

    Around 650 bikers also turned up for a 'ride out' around Hull to highlight the work Humberside Police has been been doing to tackle motorbike thefts and related crimes.

    The operation's lead, Chief Inspector Paul Butler, said Yellowfin had been a huge success.

    Too many people in Yorkshire are buying reusable water bottles, but then not using them.

    That's according to research published today by Keep Britain Tidy.

    Their findings show six out of 10 people in Yorkshire have bought a reusable bottle, but a quarter either don't use it regularly or never use it at all.

    The findings emerged from a survey in which people were asked about their attitudes to plastic waste and water consumption.

    An inquiry into North Linconlshire Council's attempt to buy land near the M180 has been called for by Labour councillors at the authority.

    According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service the council tried to buy the 500 acres of land known as Vale Farm in Broughton in September 2017 for £4m.

    A proposal to build 140 affordable homes on the site and create 250 jobs was part of the purchase but the council had a revised offer rejected by owners Jerry Green Dog Rescue in December.

    Opposition councillors raised concerns over the transparency of the negotiations but the ruling Conservative group says they were transparent.

    Leader of the Labour group, Councillor Len Foster, will put forward a motion to launch an independent inquiry on Friday.

    A new pirate-themed green space opened at St Andrew’s Hospice in Grimsby today.

    It was designed by award-winning garden designer Jody Lidgard (pictured below) who is originally from the town.

    He worked with the Greenfingers Charity, external to design and create a garden which would provide life-limited children with a feast of new sensory experiences.

    Jody said he felt privileged to be able to help children in his home town.

    In two weeks 5,000 people have sign up to My Community Alert, Humberside Police’s new messaging facility.

    It allows residents to receive real-time messages about incidents, including information ranging from appeals about missing people to notifications about road closures.

    Since going live, the top three sections that people have signed up for are community safety messages, emergency road closures/disruptions and flood warnings and alerts.

    An adventure seeking Hull charity worker will soon be setting off to accompany a swimmer on the sea trip of a lifetime.

    Maria Brennan who works for CatZero , externalwill leave Lands End to kaykak beside swimmer Paula McGuire as she attempts to be the first person to swim around Britain.

    It's called The Big Mad Swim Around Britain , externaland they set off next Tuesday.

    Maria will spend up to ten hours a day keeping Paula safe, fed and watered from the 'comfort' of her kayak.

    Yorkshire and the Humber currently has the highest rate of unemployment in the UK.

    Figures from the Office for National Statistics, external reveal it stood at 5.2% for the three months ending February 2018.

    The 0.2% increase is the second largest compared to the previous period.

    Nationally unemployment is at its lowest level since 1975 with more 32.26 million people in work.

  11. Kitchen firm gets £283,000 grant to keep site in Doncasterpublished at 11:09 British Summer Time 17 April 2018

    Kitchen manufacturer Omega PLC, based off the M18 in Thorne, is to get £283,000 from Doncaster Council's business investment incentive scheme to secure the firm's £20m investment in an expanded site.

    Plans include a new distribution facility and office block and the scheme's expected to create 109 permanent full-time jobs.

    Council bosses raised concerns the firm could build their expansion site on cheaper land in nearby Goole.

    Members of the council's steering group felt the nature of the investment would be "good for Doncaster" by providing "substantial business rates uplift and a significant increase in skilled new jobs in the town".

    The council is to give Omega a speculative build grant of £228,000 alongside a £50,000 job creation grant and a £5,000 project set-up grant to pay for architects' fees, planning application and removal costs.

    The total grant will be paid out by the council when the jobs have been created for a minimum period of one year and the company provides written evidence of the staff appointed residing at a Doncaster postcode.

    Bicycle theft is on the rise across our area.

    A new report by the insurance company Direct Line reveals that nationally annual insurance claims for bike theft are more than £7.5m.

    Incidents have increased by 17% in the past three years with one bike stolen every six minutes.

    It seems that 1,919 bikes were stolen in East Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire last year.

    Humberside Police have a number of cycle security schemes, external running across the force and they work with local cycle shops to try and prevent theft.

    The 37-year-old has Asperger syndrome and has been missing since yesterday morning.

    Simon left his home on High Street, Kirton in Lindsey to go to work and hasn’t been seen since.

    He requires medication which he didn’t take last night.

    Humberside Police say he has access to money and has a bus pass with him, but his mobile phone is switched off.

    He walks in a distinctive fashion.

    Patients in Hull and East Yorkshire's hospitals are being urged to get up, get dressed and get moving.

    It's part of a national campaign encouraging people to wear daytime clothes, external.

    Medical staff at Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust say it encourages patients to move about rather than lie in bed in pyjamas.

    The scheme #EndPJParalysis runs until 26 June.

    Officers at HMP Humber are tightening security around the prison's mailing system.

    Prisoners on the site are now given only photocopies of letters, after it emerged that some paper had been soaked in drugs.

    A report from the Chief Inspector of Prisons notes that incidents involving psychoactive substances have fallen since the measure was introduced.
