    A police officer has been sacked after he threatened a Polish doorman on a night out in Hull

    PC Mark Baird told the doorman he would "smash his head in" and told him to "speak English" after being refused entry to a bar, a misconduct hearing heard.

    He also told the Polish national he was a police officer and knew the law.

    The panel heard PC Barid had drunk "in excess of 10 pints" when he verbally abused the man outside Tofts, on Newland Avenue, last November.

    Footage of some of the incident, which was filmed on a mobile phone, showed the officer slurring his words.

    The panel ruled “dismissal was the only appropriate outcome”.

    The NHS says it's working as quickly as possible to create a new mental health facility for children in Hull after a city MP said it was taking too long to deliver.

    The government announced last year that £7m would be used to create a new Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service facility in Hull.

    But Emma Hardy, the Labour MP for Hull West and Hessle, has now raised concerns in Parliament over the time it's taking.

    The NHS said big projects are complex but it was working to move things forward.

    The new Hull Venue, external is looking for 140 volunteers to help flush all their toilets at the same time.

    The venue, which has a capacity of 3,500, wants to ensure all the toilets are up to the job.

    The event, dubbed the "grand flush", will take place at 15:000 on 13 June.

    The volunteers will be offered a guided tour of the venue as a thank you for their flushing efforts.

    The Pro-Chancellor of Hull University has been named as the pilot who died in a helicopter crash in North Yorkshire yesterday.

    The aircraft, piloted by Barry Dodd CBE, came down near Boroughbridge yesterday lunchtime.

    As well as his role at the University of Hull, Mr Dodd was also Chair of the joint Hull York Medical School and was the Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire.

    Until 1 February, he was also the Chairman of the York, North Yorkshire and East Riding Enterprise Partnership.

    Investigations are continuing into what happened.

    A Humberside Police officer has apologised for racially abusing a Polish doorman in Hull when he was drunk.

    A two-day misconduct hearing at Goole Magistrates' Court continues today, after the officer admitted yesterday his behaviour amounted to gross misconduct, but denied any intention of being racist.

    The panel was told how last November PC Mark Baird drank more than 10 pints before using racist language after being refused entry to Tofts on Newland Avenue.

    They were also told the officer had split up with his partner, faced financial difficulties and was on anti-depressants.

    PC Baird told the hearing: "I can only apologise for my actions. I'm absolutely disgusted."

    The panel heard the officer had no recollection of the incident.

    Maintenance work is being carried out on the Humber Bridge this morning, which could cause some delays for drivers.

    A Hull MP is calling on the government to release funds for mental health care provision in Hull.

    Although the government announced that £7m would be used to build a new Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service facility for young people in the area, the money still hasn't emerged, meaning building work can't begin.

    NHS England says it is working with Humber NHS Foundation Trust to ensure the right finances are in place to progress the development as swiftly as possible.

    Emma Hardy, the Labour MP for Hull West and Hessle, says it's unacceptable that they are still waiting for the centre to be built.

    Beverley and Holderness MP Graham Stuart says he wants a meeting with the East Riding Clinical Commissioning Group over complaints about the new NHS service at Withernsea.

    There have been complaints that people are being sent to Hull and Beverley for treatment, instead of getting an appointment at the Withernsea day centre.

    The new service was introduced in April, following the closure of the Minor Injuries Unit at Withernsea Community Hospital.

    The city healthcare partnership who are delivering the service say the system is working quite well and patients have made positive comments about it.
