    McBride, external has announced plans to stop their aerosol production in Hull.

    The company are in talks with unions and say the factory could close by spring 2019.

    A food charity says more people are benefiting from surplus food than ever before.

    FareShare Hull and Humber distributes surplus food from supermarkets and food manufacturers to charities and community groups.

    Fareshare, external redistributed 16,992 tonnes of food to 10,000 charities in 2017/18.

    The charity helped feed 772,000 people every week across the UK - An increase of 59%.

    Comedienne Susan Calman has kept her promise and got an I love Grimsby tattoo.

    Susan promised a Strictly Come Dancing audience she would get the tattoo if she and professional partner, Kevin Clifton, made it to the live show in Blackpool.

    Kevin is of course famously from Grimsby and this tweet confirms the comedienne has kept her promise:

  5. 'Left behind' cities need to be in HS2 plans - Reportpublished at 10:36 British Summer Time 29 May 2018

    Plans to transform Britain's rail network and increase connectivity in the north are due to be published today.

    A report by transport think-tank Greengauge 21, external focuses on places which it says risk being "left behind" by current plans for the HS2 high speed rail link.

    The Beyond HS2 report suggests it would be possible to add Hull and Doncaster to the high-speed cross-country service from the north east and Yorkshire, southwards to Birmingham, Bristol/Cardiff and beyond.

    Report author Jim Steer believes that improving connectivity between northern cities will have significant economic benefits:

    Midwives in Hull are using interpreters to make sure mums-to-be from the Polish community get the support they need when giving birth.

    The Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals Trust says it will offer a free class to Polish couples at its next Carousel event at the Hull Women and Children’s Hospital on Wednesday night.

    The Baby Carousel offers advice, support and information to help women and their partners throughout their pregnancies.

    Members of the Hull and East Yorkshire baby team have also been touring Polish shops and community venues around the city to inform people of the service.

  8. Watch: Hull's rugby league teams unite for charity matchpublished at 08:59 British Summer Time 29 May 2018

    Hull's rugby league clubs are putting rivalries aside to create a joint team to play against an even older rival: the world of rugby union.

    A special Hull KR/Hull FC shirt has been created for Saturday's match at KCom Craven Park which will raise money to help veterans.

    One half will follow rugby league's rules, while the the other half will be played under rugby union rules.

    Beverley's Kyle Edmund has told reporters he is ready for today's first round match in the French Open.

    He gets his French Open campaign under way this morning when he takes on Australian youngster Alex De Minaur in the first round.

    The pair have met just once before, with the British number one beating the 19-year-old in straight sets just three weeks ago at the Estoril Open.

    They are due on court at about 10:00.

    A charity which provides transport for elderly people in East Yorkshire says it's worried about its future after being told it can't operate school buses to generate income.

    The Beverley Lift company has been told it will need an operators' licence if it wants to take on commercial work like providing transport for schools.

    The company says it relies on commercial contracts to help supplement the charity work it does when providing transport for elderly people, which currently accounts for half its income.
