    Grimsby Town have signed Chesterfield defender Alex Whitmore for an undisclosed fee on a one-year deal.

    The 22-year-old previously worked with Mariners boss Michael Jolley when he was in charge of Burnley's Under-23s.

    Whitmore joined the Spireites on a two-and-a-half-year deal in January and scored once in 16 games.

    The first of 250 new bungalows for elderly and disabled people have been finished and their new tenants have moved in.

    Derelict land is being brought back to life through the scheme, with the first seven properties on the Longhill estate in Hull already completed.

    The project aims to help people continue to live in the area when they need to downsize.

    Police say they're concerned for the welfare of a missing teenager from Brigg.

    Humberside Police said 17-year-old Daisy-May Burton has a number of health conditions.

    She left her home on Thursday evening, telling her family she was going to Grimsby, and hasn't been in touch with them since.

    She has links to Peterborough and officers believe she could be in that area.

    She is described as being 5ft 4in tall, slim, and has long dark hair.

    Hull City Council Deputy leader Daren Hale says he's disappointed that Hull didn't make the final shortlist of cities being considered for Channel 4's new headquarters.

    The council said it had put together an ambitious bid to become the broadcaster’s new national HQ.

    Mark Jones, the director of regeneration for Hull City Council, wished all the short listed cities the best of luck going forward.

    Parents of so-called rainbow babies are being helped through a new scheme in Scunthorpe, Grimsby and Goole.

    A rainbow baby is a healthy child born after the parents have previously suffered a miscarriage or stillbirth.

    Midwives say parents often find it difficult to plan for the pregnancy and birth, because they are so fearful of another loss.

    Nicola Kerry, a bereavement midwife, says parents in the area are going to be given a rainbow-themed bundle of the basic items all new parents need.

    A councillor says she's received dozens of complaints about Withernsea's new minor injuries service.

    The new centre was set up to deal with a range of minor injuries like cuts and sprains.

    Withernsea now offers daytime appointments, after reforms made earlier this year, but appointments are only available by booking through the non-emergency NHS 111 number.

    Lyn Healing, who is a Conservative councillor on the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said too many people are being sent to Beverley or Hull rather than being offered an appointment in Withernsea.

    Carol Waudby, from the Hull City Health Care Partnership, who provide the service, says the referral system is working well.

    More mobile flood defences are needed to defend towns and villages in East Yorkshire, the council has been warned.

    It's one of a series of recommendations made in a report by a review panel set up by East Riding Council last year.

    Mobile defences can be easily and speedily erected during an emergency.

    Other ideas include relaxing spending rules to make it easier to get funding for new flood defences.

    A collapsed culvert is causing disruption for train passengers travelling on the Hull to Brough line.

    Network Rail said the collapse happened at around 10:30 this morning and workers are on site to try and repair the problem.

  11. Road improvements mean a move for the Spurn Lightshippublished at 13:58 British Summer Time 30 May 2018

    The Spurn Lightship, external won't be open to visitor this summer as it's being moved to another part of Hull Marina.

    The move comes ahead of multi-million pound improvements to the A63.

    Work is expected to begin in October to construct a footbridge over Castle Street.

    It's hoped that once the work is finished, the lightship will be moored at its new permanent home on Hull Marina.

    Hull has missed out on the chance to be shortlisted as a possible new base for Channel 4's HQ.

    The city had bid to go on the shortlist after the broadcaster began its search for a base and two other hubs outside of London earlier this year.

    In a statement just issued, Leeds is in the running as a possible home to the broadcaster's national headquarters.

    Briston, Cardiff, Glasgow, Manchester, Liverpool and the West Midlands are also contenders.

    Meanwhile, Sheffield could become the base for what's being called a "Creative Hub" for Channel 4.

    Barbed wire is being removed from the Spurn Point nature reserve, external after a deer was seriously injured.

    The deer had become caught in some wire, the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust said.

    The charity is now assessing and removing barbed wire where it isn't needed.

    It's asking for volunteers to help with the removal of the wire today.

    The organisers of this year's Humber Street Sesh, external have announced the first wave of acts for the festival.

    The festival, which celebrates unsigned music by local artists, will take place on the first Friday and Saturday in August.

    Bands announced today include King No One and Fonda 500.

    Organisers say 200 more acts will be announced later.

    An estimated 32,000 people are expected to visit this year's event.

    People have rallied around Hornsea Rescue Boat, after the charity was forced to appeal for more donations at the beginning of the month.

    Officials at Hornsea Rescue said a series of expensive call-outs had left the charity wondering how it would pay its day-to-day running costs.

    Operations Manager John Pugh says a number of people have made donations since the appeal, although fundraising efforts will still continue.

    A motorcyclist has died after colliding with a car in Scunthorpe.

    The incident happened at about 16:45 yesterday at the junction of Warley Road and St Boltoph’s Road.

    The motorcyclist suffered fatal injuries in the crash with a black Vauxhall Astra.

    Anyone who witnessed what happened is being asked to get in touch with Humberside Police.

    A Beverley charity has delivered thousands of pounds' worth of medical aid to hurricane-hit Barbuda.

    The island was devastated by Hurricane Irma last year, leaving about 95% of its buildings destroyed.

    The Jacob's Well charity has sent 10 hospital beds, an ultrasound machine, an x-ray machine and cardiac monitors, as well as bandages and other medical consumables to the Caribbean island

    The charity says it hopes this container of aid will enable the hospital there to get up and running once again.
